oasis says one thing, digital another

So I dropped an Oasis XL in my small cab yesterday. I set it at 65 and go about my business. The humi was already seasoned at 65 so I wasnt too worried about it.

today I come home and my digital that I kept in the humi prior is reading 62% but when I checked the oasis and pressed the button to check the humidity it said 70%.

which should I trust and any thoughts on what to do?

salt test the hydro. when the batteries get older, the hydro tends to be less accurate

I agree, CO's may or may not read acutately, I've got one that's right on, the other one is too low. Salt test your hygrometer and go by that, you shouldn't have any problems.

CO's are notorius for being off, sometimes quite a bit. I have 3 of them but I use Western Caliber III digital hygrometers to keep track of the RH and just adjust the CO's to maintain the RH I want based on the hygrometer readings. The hygros in the CO units might be inaccurate but the units maintain very steady RH once adjusted.

Re: oasis says one thing, digital another

I have a CO Ultra and a Caliber III. For a while (one month) everything was going great.

The CO was set to RH70% and the Caliber III read 70%.

One afternoon I noticed that the CO was not coming on when I opened the lid to the humi. I pressed the button and it showed the H2O code, so I re-charged the cartridge for the first time. I carefully followed the instructions to ensure no excess water was left in the cartridge.

Since this day, my two devices have not agreed. The Caliber III always shows very high RH 75% and the CO is set to 65%.

I salt tested the Caliber and was surprised to find out it was reading 79% (before it has always been dead 75% in salt test.)

I have ordered beads. I am way too anal to have such a difference and am terrified I am doing harm to my cigars. I will change the batteries on my Caliber III next to see if this makes a difference.

The CO devices are notoriously inaccurate, I have a couple of them. I agree, the Western Caliber III is the most reliable.
