Hygro Reading Off The Charts

Picked up a Xikar Hygro today. Expecting my Humi Tomorrow and just wanna get ready.
Its the new Digital Hygro Thermometer with 1 button. Simple, easy to use etc...
Doing the Salt Test.
Tspoon 'o' salt in a Shot Glass, drizzle of wata' and in a little ziplock with the "Machine".

And the reading is showing me the dashes (- -) which implies that the humidity is outside of the readable range. Readable range is 30%-90%.

So.....that means that right now, in its 3rd hour of calibration, it is above 90%??? Does that seem possible??

By the way. They mention that this new model unit only requires a 3-4 hour time limit inside the bag for Salt Test. Just fyi. I know someone is gonna say to leave it in there for 48 hours etc...Just saying what the manufacturer said.
If someone would like to read that, go to this page, scroll half way down under Hygrometer and click on the highlighted sentence mentioning Salt Test.

Hey David,
Several possibilities here are the two that might help.
  1. This is probably it. Is your salt and water mixture right? What you want is just enough water so that you can tell the salt is wet. What you don't want is a soup or sludge. I have made this mistake myself several times.
  2. Are you calibrating hygrometer before you put it in the bag or after the 4 hour time. The hygrometer calibration in a salt test is like resetting a scale. You need to provide the environment first and then adjust after the 4 hours.
Let me know if you need any more ideas. I am here every day.

Thanks for jumping in Jacob.
I will re-do the salt test and also get the Hygro off of the cold marble I had it sitting on in my kitchen. Will do the whole test on a surface that is less cold.

Will advise. Thanks.

Re: Hygro Reading Off The Charts

Alright. After re-doing the Salt Test the Hygro got pretty close. 71%.
I assume I can just leave it as is and there is no need to send it back to Xikar for a replacement.

I got my Humi today and I am soooooo stoked.
Ohhh the smell. Yummy. Beautiful. You can feel the essence that will soon cover the cigars.

Even though I have the Digital Hygro I still want to test the Analog that came with box. Might as well have 2 points to measure off of right?!? But now I have to wait until that guy is done with the Salt Test for me to start seasoning.
I got an Oasis XL and I technically do not need to season but I want to. It makes sense to get the box properly ready. But I have to wait and thats killing me.

I guess I could plug the hole with stuff but I prolly wont.
Will just wait till tomorrow AM.
