Re: Need a good Lighter

I dig 'em for tank size. Mine's always lit within 2 tries, usually the first.

My wife got me a blue rhino recently. Usually sparks within 2 maybe 3, but on it's lowest setting it blasts out quite a flame. I'd use it more if it held more. I think that was a 14.00 lighter if I'm not mistaken.

Another good thing about blazer is you can see the remaining fuel. I know a few other lighters have that as well... Nothing worse than trying to light a gar when you run outta fuel.

I was thinking of a vector pump for the house... anyone got an opinion on vector? I don't think there's a fuel window on 'em

Re: Need a good Lighter

First I would like to start off with this lighter I got from CI is my very first butane lighter and it's the very first time I had to refill a lighter. Ok now that's out the way. I got fustrated with having to fill the lighter so often so the last time I filled it I pushed really hard on it and BAM! It really filled it up. I guess I wasn't really refilling it when I thought I was because I haven't filled in four days and I use it every night.

I recently got a Xikar Axia, best pocket lighter ever IMHO - best table-size I've got is the 3-jet freebie from Perdomo (I think they call it The Thundra)! I recommend you get one of each.

I can't remember the site but I saw that Perdomo lighter free with a box of habanos... box price was great. I think they changed the lighter now, the Perdomo seal is real obvious, not like the old one.

I'm a big fan of the Ronson. But if you want something that holds a lot of butane, look for a creme brulee torch at a kitchen/cooking shop ($20-$50) or go for a Vector table top butane lighter ($80-$100). Of course, you won't be carrying either of those around with you.

Yes, I got one free with a box of Habanos (great price on the smokes) from Famous online. It is made by Vector and sells for about $60. Hard to beat that deal.

$3 Ronson torch from walmart! Can't beat them for the price! Reliable, cheap! I have several of them......Keep one in my motorcycle, on in my jacket, one on my porch, one in my jeans.....and a couple of spares in the man cave!

After buying all of those, I still have $$ to spare over one of those pretty brand named ones! Hey, it's a flame! what the heck else do you need!

Re: Need a good Lighter

My first jet was a Xikar Executive, and it works great, but I don't use it much. I bought it at the B&M and paid way, way too much for it. I didn't know any better.

Then I got a free CI Colibri Firebird, which is also awesome. That's the one I use the most. It just works. Holds a gob of fuel, and I can "paint the flame" on the end of my cigar. I may buy a 2-pack of them and just throw them in the drawer for the future. I've only had it for maybe six months, so I don't know if it will last "forever". Definitely my "go-to".

I also have a "pile" of Ronsons now. More than 5, less than 10, I'm not even exactly sure. I've only opened one of them, though. You could definitely have them to give away, or loan them out and not worry about getting them back.

For a while, I was even using a jet-type grill lighters. It worked OK, but not great. There are lots of ways to light a cigar, and any of them that don't foul the taste will do in a pinch, but some ways are just better and easier than others. I probably don't do it "right". I like to really char the end and get it really going, and then let it rest for a few minutes before I start smoking it. I get a nice, hot cherry going in the core, and make sure the wrapper is lit all the way around. Sometimes I take 2-3 goes at it. When I do that, it seems like I have fewer problems with getting runners and going out. It's probably all because I don't know what I'm doing, and some day I may be sophisticated enough to not need to go all cave-man on them, but it's working for now.

Re: Need a good Lighter

Here's an update to my original comment on Ronson. I had a cigar by the fire pit last weekend and left my Ronson on the picnic table.

After some tough days at work, I forgot about it until yesterday -- after three straight days of rain! Brought it in the house, dried it off and it fired up on the first click.

You really can't beat these for about $3 a piece at Walmart or around $4.50 at CVS.

Re: Need a good Lighter

IM Corona Old Boy for soft flame, they can't be beat. Xikar for torch. Colibri is junk. Whatever you use be sure you use quality fuel at least triple refined. Poor fuel is what kills most of them.
