Re: Need a good Lighter

I've become a serious JetLite convert. I recently dropped one of mine on concrete from about four feet, and now it won't light. I'm not sure what it did to it. It sparks, and there's a very brief burst of flame that looks just like normal, but it won't stay lit. I had just filled it a day or two before, and I can hear the gas flowing, so I don't think it's a lack-of-fuel problem. Even with it turned all the way down, it's like it's blowing out the flame. It landed on the lid. I don't know if that has anything to do with it. It may have just jacked up the fuel adjustment. The only thing visually wrong with it is that now the lid doesn't close quite right. They're cheap, and I'll just toss it, but I had only used it for a few days, so it's annoying.

Re: Need a good Lighter

Having curiosity, too much free time, and nothing to lose, I decided to mess around with the defunct JetLite. I removed the tiny Phillips screw in the bottom and the innards came right out. And it lit like a brand new one? Put it back, works once or twice, then dies again. Take it out, works, put it back, doesn't work. What the Hell? Now I'm thinking this is an air-flow problem, and not a spark or fuel problem. So I'm still playing around with it, considering drilling a couple of very small air holes through the case, and it suddenly runs out of fuel. I purge it real well and refill, and now it works perfectly. I am semi-baffled. Maybe it had trapped air, or not enough fuel, or who knows? Some kind of 'operator error', or other. Anyway, the lid is still a little tweaked, but it works so who cares? Weird. I know, a lot of effort for a $3.50 lighter, but hey, that's a cigar, right?

I know there are better lighters out there but I don't know which ones, so can anyone recommend a good lighter for the wife and I? Thanks in advance!!
I'm sure you've been told by now, but if you want something that is durable and will last for a while, I suggest picking up a Colibri or Nibo. It's worth the investment to get a good lighter. You'll need to make sure to get the best fuel though.

Re: Need a good Lighter

I have several lighters, but two that are my favs.

I always liked a good zippo, but not the best for cigars. I have a favorite that was personalized with engraving. A few years ago I found an insert (zipette?) that fits into your favorite Zippo case. Works great many lights (does not leak like many) and only cost $12.95. I just saw my favorite shop still carries them, so I assume they are around.

I just returned from deployment and during my time overseas I started smoking a pipe as well as cigars. So I decided to treat myself to an IM corono "Old Boy" Awesome lighter as far as quality, so I would be comfortable recomending a IM Corona.

Re: Need a good Lighter

I have a new Vector (perdomo model) table lighter which is a triple flame. So far it is awesome. I got it when I purchased a box of perdomo habanos from corona cigar company. I have seen the lighter advertised for $50. The price of the cigars was a good deal and the bonus lighter was hard to beat.
