Can't seem to get above 65% humidity?

Ok I've had my humidor set up for a little over a week. I seasoned it (once with a some what damp sponge, which sat in it over night on a plastic bag), then again(with just taking the damp sponge and rubbing it down). I can't seem to get it above 65% humidity though. I put a jar of Xikar crystal in it, after it wouldn't rise I put the humidifier in with the jar and it came up, but still won't go above 65%. Should I maybe retest my hygrometer to make sure it isn't off? Or maybe is it because of our extremely dry climate? Thanks guys.

I like my gars at about 72. I can't say enough about Boveda packets. Choose the packet for your desire humidity level, throw the packet in your humidor and forget it. Replace it about every two months. They are spot in when it comes to the humidity level.

Sounds like your digital hygro is off. Do a salt test, and then reset it if it has that feature.

Ugh, things are even worse after calibration the hygro. I seasoned the humidor again, and calibrated. Now the max I am seeing is 63%. I have the humidifier in with Xikar PG, a jar of Xikar crystals, and a shot glass full of water. Still can't raise it any. Is my humidor junk? I'm kinda loss?

I am with you on cant get over 65%, I have whetted down the inside of two humidors I have and have two tubes of gel, and a 3x5x1.5 box full of gel. I doubt these are 50 cigar humidors. I have tested the hygrometer and I have digital and analog in both.

Re: Can't seem to get above 65% humidity?

To me personally, this would not ba a problem. I don't keep my sticks at 70. I keep them between 62 and 65 and find they smoke better.

I keep mine at 65 and all my smokes are fine. 70 and over are a little wet for me.

Well 65 is pretty good if its staying there constant. Try microwaving a small cup of water, mybe 20 secs, of distilled water and leaving it in there overnight. The steam should def get it to jump up higher than 65 and get the wood to absorb enough moisture.
