New Humidors
Hello. First and foremost I feel as though I should introduce myself since I'm new here. I'm a younger guy who likes to go against the curve. While most people of 19 are rushing out to get cigarettes, the first smoke I went for was a nice 91 rated cigar.
But this isn't about me, it's about my new humidor. I got it from Cigar Humidors and Cigar Humidor Accessories at Humidor Vault. Nothing special, just a 15-20ct., $18.00, "cherry" humidor. Anyway, it came with no instructions so I just have a couple questions. I already wiped it down and it seems to hold the moisture (a darker color on the wood) but not stay wet, I'm assuming this is what you would want. My first question is how long should I continue to wipe this down before it's ready. It's also got the simple plastic humidifier. I put some water in it as I had read online but I'm wondering how often I should do this. Both while I'm prepping the humidor and after it's got a stock of cigars in it. Thanks in advance and I'm glad to be a member here. ![]() |

Re: New Humidors
I wouldn't suggest wiping down the wood at all. You could eventually warp it.

I too do not get the wiping down the wood thing. I understand that people want to speed up the seasoning process, but this seems like a big corner to cut IMHO. I bet 90% of the time it doesn't hurt anything, but I still think it's unwarranted. Especially on a small 20ct humidor, there's very little wood actually there to season. It probably wouldn't take more than a couple days to season properly. To the OP, take your time, do it right... And get some beads! Happy smoking! ![]()

Re: New Humidors
Thanks for the quick replies. I only wiped it down once so I guess I shouldn't worry too much about damage. I'm at school now but when I get home I follow those directions. Thanks again.
