From what I've heard the salt test should produce 75% humidity and should be done with distilled water. I have tried this test a few times but I think I oversaturated the salt giving me too much humidity. I am going to try this again with the wet sand approach.

Re: New Humidor problem maybe?!?

I have a hydrometer just like the ones in the picture. Here is what you do, fill a bottle cap up with salt, and then fill the salt with distilled water until it is fully saturated, you can take care of any extra water with a few additional grains of salt or dab a cloth on top. Then place the cap and the hydro in a sealed tupperware for at least 24 hrs, I usually do 48, just like your cigars put it somewhere like a bedroom closet, away from sunlight, fans, and temp changes. After your time is up, take out the hydro and immediately hold down the button until it resets at 75% and you are good to go.

My advice is trust your humidification device and humidor more then your gauge. Cigars are more durable then you think, and just because a wrapper splits or flakes a little is no reason to get worried, you're just going to burn the thing anyway.

I agree with the above, do the salt test for at least 24 hours, I would prob leave it for at least 48. Also do it somewhere when it is dark and cool. Be sure and write down if there is any difference so that you will know. In other words you do the salt test and the hydrometer reads 73%, then you know it really is -2%. Write that down so you don't forget. Good luck, I'm sure everything is fine, looks like a nice humi.

I read in internet, I don remember where that PG is good for sponge humidifiers, and for crystals one should use distilled water.

Anyway in Bulgaria is impossible to find PG I have to order it from internet and since it weights quite a lot it come with the price of gold
