Lighter and Humidor Question

First off I would like to say hi to everyone as this is my first post on this forum.. To give you a little background I'm fairly new to the cigar world I have been enjoying an occasional cigar for almost a year now. That being said I'm in the market for my first humidor and quality butane lighter. I'm pretty settled on my humidor I'm currently looking at a Craftsmens Bench Magellan (comments welcome).. I've heard to look for a humidor that is spanish cedar, at least just over a quarter inch thick, and it should seal on a pocket of air; the Magellan seems to meet all of these requirements. The lighter seems to be more of a hassle to settle on. I like Colibri's designs but I know that they are under new ownership and can't seem to get a straight answer as to whether or not the new company is giving their old lighters a lifetime warranty or not. I have also heard Xikar makes a quality lighter but their designs don't seem to be as appealing and the price being so much lower then Colibri's kind of scares me off as crazy as that may sound. Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated..

The humidor is fine. DON'T buy a Colibri! I prefer Lotus, and a lot of guys here like Xikar, too.

I agree, if you really want a Colibri go onto the devil site and get one for very little money. I have a couple and thye don't seem to last long. If it's finances, save your money and get a good lighter. It will make your smoking enjoyment that much better

That seems to be the general consensus, I'm just hoping I can find a lighter that has some style and will still be reliable..

Best deal on a good, dependable lighter is here.... http://www.ronsoncorp.com/jetlite_detail.htm

Several styles that look good and can be found everywhere for about $5.

I have several of these that I use all the time. For going out on the town, I take my Blazer torch.

Thanks for the suggestion! I'm just looking for something a little more subtle and stream line, it seems to be difficult to find though.. The lighter and humidor are both going to be gifts from my girlfriend and I would like to be able to get a lighter that could be engraved; thats not absolutely necessary though..

Re: Lighter and Humidor Question

This lighter is about as big as a pack of gum... anymore streamlined and all you'll have is a match.

Those fancy, high-priced lighters are basically all crap. I've had several brands/makes and all are now in a jar, not working, and collecting dust.

Best advice is to save your $$ for cigars or get a paperweight, your choice. Wish you luck in your search.

I understand and I do appreciate the info.. Do you have any take on the humidor? Am I headed in the right direction there?

Re: Lighter and Humidor Question

If the cash is available, it is a good humidor. There are others just as good for less but a humidor is a personal taste choice. What size are you looking at and do you have a web link to it?

Re: Lighter and Humidor Question

Check tampa humidors, cigar international even e-bay for some. You can get a decent one without breaking the bank, more money for cigars that way! Digital hygrometer and beads are the way to go IMO.

Re: Lighter and Humidor Question

As you can see, I'm a frugal shopper. My top choice for humidors is www.cheaphumidors.com. Great products and great service.

Cigars and the passion that goes along with it doesn't have to bust the bank to be enjoyed. Being still relatively new to cigar smoking, I wouldn't drop large coin on a fancy set-up until I was sure the newfound passion was totally agreeable and longterm.

130ct also I've heard that is should be fairly full; is there a general recommendation as to how full? Also is it ok to use cheap filler cigars to occupy some of the space, and what are the consequences if its not very full? Heres a link to what it looks like, it's not where I'm purchasing it though.. Re: Lighter and Humidor Question

That should be a good size to start with, and those in the link you posted are a good quality product. Also, they look really good. I'd bet though that if you are still enjoying cigars in a year's time you'll need another humidor. It happens to everyone, but you can cross that bridge when you get to it. For now, you should be fine with a 130 ct.

As for the contents you plan to keep in it, I'd not just fill up the space with "whatever". It'll fill up with what you really like before you know it. Again, it happens to everyone, just a part of the frenzied passion. Some call it ODO or Order DisOrder. Shop the sales as everything goes on sale at some point.

Lastly, there are "cheap" cigars and then there are "inexpensive" cigars. I'd opt for the latter as there are lots of good yet inexpensive smokes out there. Depending on your tastes in cigars, there are lots of folks here willing to give you lots of ideas.

Thanks! So I think I'm settled on this humidor and will most likely order it tomorrow.. Now I just need to worry bout seasoning it.. Have you heard anything about the packets you can use? Also I've heard that a digital hydrometer is recommended does it matter what brand I chose for that?
