Remove all humidifiers until the rh goes below 70%, then use only one tube for humidification.

Thanks, I'll do that right now.

I usually remove the plastic top (but leave the beads in the bag which is inside the humidifier) and re-hydrate that way. Just make sure you shake any excess water droplets away and wipe the humidifier down, otherwise you'll end up dripping some water on the stogies.

(I have calibrated the digital hygrometer with whole salt in a baggy)

Too many beads is not going to cuase your RH to go up. However, if the beads are too wet, they won't be able to re-absorb some of the excess humidity that may be in the humidor, and they RH will stay high. Especialy if the room humidity is high.

Just remove the humidifiers/beads until the RH gets down to the desired level, and dry out the beads a bit as well. Then put them back in. (You can dry the beads in a couple ways -- on a cookie sheet in the over on low setting for a few hours, or using a hair drier (on LOW!! Don't want to blow the beads away!).

But yeah, you don't need that many beads in a 50-ct.

Re: Newbie Read - Updating Your Humidifier

Thanks for this. I had been reading about these and wondering how they work and are implemented in a coolerdor or humidor and haven't been understanding it in words. Your post was excellent. Thanks.

Much appreciated. I also like the illustration with photos. Sometimes verbal descriptions aren't enough, especially when you don't understand the pieces being described.

Thanks for the posts. I just threw the mesh bag into the humidor. I might try to put some of them in the plastic humidifier that I took out.

Well in the old adage that a picture is worth a 1000 words - here is a "how-to" on the subject.
I am not going to explain how they work - there are posts on that already - I'm just going to show you some examples of how they can be used. And of course I have no vested interest in Viper's beads - just a user of them.

So - let's say that you have a nice little humidor like the one pictured below.

Now you can see that there is not a whole lot of room in there - added to that there is a plate in the lid so that the humidifier can be attached to the lid - no space lost below. Yours may have velcro of some sort. In any case - you get the idea

Here you can see the bag of beads, a cloth mesh bag, humidifier and a tool to open the case.

Inside we find the standard foam that would use either straight distilled water or a PG solution.

Notice that on the back side of the lid - we see more vent holes that are covered up by the label. Let's pop that off -

"I love this place - CS" Great post and extremely helpful for newbies. I can feel the love now.

Re: Newbie Read - Updating Your Humidifier

Great article. I too like to have a look at how someone completes a project. Thanks for sharing.

Have you ever tried to update the humidifier in a herfador, like the Cigar Caddy or similar air/water tight travel humidor? I would imagine it would work on the same principle.
