Xikar Solution?
Hello All!
Has anyone used Xikar solution? Does it work as it claims to regulate to 70% without any hassle? The reason I ask is because I recently received a small 20 ct. desktop humidor with a bottle of Xikar solution as a gift. The hydrometer cannot be removed to be salt tested. I filled the humidifier with the Xikar and the RH jumped from 40 to 50, I put in a shot glass of distilled water and it came up 2% and has been holding at 52% for the last 4 days, without the water in the shot glass dropping. I am hoping that the hydrometer just needs to be calibrated and the Xikar is doing its job. Any ideas? ![]() |

Re: Xikar Solution?
I have been using PG for years now and as far as the cigars go it does stabilize them to a point but if they were a little on the wet side when you bought them and put them in the humi it will take a couple weeks for them to come down ...
You can never rely on a gauge , just use it as a guide and go by how the cigar looks , feels and most of all smokes ! If it is too tight or hard to draw it's too wet and if it's to dry it will fall & flake apart in your hands so you be the judge and not the gauge .. I keep my humidifiers in a tupperware jar with about a 1/2" of PG solution in it , when the cigars start to get dry I put in a fresh humidifier and if they feel too wet I take it out of the humidor and put it back in the tupperware jar for as long as I feel it needs to be out and then I put it back in when needed ... It's all trial & error ! ![]() ![]() |

Re: Xikar Solution?
thanks for the tip. I'm pretty sure the gauge is stuck, and the RH is probably on the high side. I'll add a few at at time and see what happens.

Re: Xikar Solution?
I am using the Xikar Solution and I found that it actually kept my humi at the mid 70 range for humidity. I salt tested my digital hygrometer twice already both times for over 24 hours and it is -1 so it is pretty accurate especially around the 75% range. I was using the solution in a puck for about two weeks and the humidity was never lower than 70% and never higher than 76% so it does keep it around that range. Since then I have switched to beads in my main humidor, drymist in my tupperdor, and I have the puck + xikar solution seasoning my other humi. I like the beads the most because they absorb humidity and regulate it but the solution will work too.

We've got you covered. PG Solution is a substance that naturally seeks to regulate humidity at 70%. It won't let you overshoot, and since the solution is premixed you won't undershoot either.

Re: Xikar Solution?
Thanks for the tips. I tried another hydrometer and it is pretty stable at 70%. The pre-mix is a great no hassle product.
