Seasoning my new humidor?

So I just got my new humidor. I've been reading about seasoning.

Here is what I did. I took a new clean sponge and saturated it with distiller water. Then whiped down the entire inside of the cedar lining. I saturated the humidifier with distiller water and shook out the excess. I installed the humidifier and laid the sponge on a piece of plastic wrap on the bottom, then closed the lid. I'm now waiting 24 hrs. After that am I done or should I repeAt?

Also, the humidor came as a combo with 20 smokes. I was dissapionted to see that the smokes were shipped inside the humi! I was told that an in seasoned humidor your smokes will dry out. So why would CI ship smokes in a new humidor?

Thanks guys can't wait to get my hygrometer!

I would advise not to wipe the humidor down any more. I know that a lot of people recommend it but you are running the risk of the wood warping.
Also it may take up to a week - 10 days for the humidor to be completely seasoned. Just keep the sponge damp until the humidity is stabilized.

The cigars were not in there long enough to worry about them drying out so they should be fine. Usually companies will ship their cigars too wet anyway to prevent them from drying out on their journey.

Good luck and enjoy!

Well this humidor does not have a hygrometer in it. Though I plan on getting one soon. How can I be sure the humidity has stabilized and is as it should be?

Re: Seasoning my new humidor?

I am definitely interested in finding out the best method to season a humidor as I have one coming that should be here tomorrow.

I have read some people advise both for and against wiping down the inside. I don't think the one I am getting has a hygrometer in it so I would be interested to find out if there is a way to tell what the humidity range could possibly be (but I don't think there is without a hygrometer).

I wouldn't wipe down the humidor again.

You really can't be sure what humidity you have without a hygrometer. Even with something like beads, which hold humidity at a certain %, I still have a hygro. for checking the humidity. When you think about it, it's an inexpensive investment compared to the amount of money you'll be spending in cigars. Perhaps you have a B&M or retail store (Wal Mart) near you where you can pick one up. If you've already ordered one, you should be fine until it arrives.
