Is it okay to use my Zippo with Zippo brand fuel to light my sticks? Or would that harm them. Im sick of trying to use matches outside haha. Just curious.

Re: Zippos?
For sure. No problem using your Zippo. For better results you can purchase the Blazer Z-Plus insert. Works like a charm and its only $10.95 at Heartfelt.

Re: Zippos?
I have used a Zippo several times. My only suggestion would be to let the flame burn for 5 - 10 seconds before lighting the cigar with it.

Re: Zippos?
Most traditionalist will say not to use a zippo, because the fumes will impart the taste to your cigar. I have used them at times didn't really notice a difference but I'm still fairly new to this hobby.

Yup. I got my Chrome Jack Daniels Zippo using the normal lighter fluid, and I bought the butane insert for my Black Ice Zippo. If you use normal lighter fluid/wick one, leave open for like 5-10 seconds before lightning the cigar, fumes tend to build up. |

You could try it and let us know. I have a friend who uses nothing but Zippos and he has been using it for a very long time. I haven't used a zippo to light my cigars just because i prefer either a torch or a match. |

Re: Zippos?
Never used a zippo for cigars and never seen it done. I was schooled two dozen years ago that it's simply not done. Again, something about fumes and dirty fuel, but recent fuels don't smell like they did back in the 70's and 80's. Not sure if Id use one in a pinch or not.

Re: Zippos?
If you want to use a butane insert but prefer a soft flame like you have now I'd recommend a Vector Thunderbird butane insert. It even has the flint wheel type ignitor. Best of both worlds. I've had one for a couple of years and it's been trouble free.

Re: Zippos?
I'll say it,,,for $2.94 why not just get a Ronson that burns clean butane and last for years? I have used other lighters that impart the fluids we are talking about,,,I can tell the difference when using fuels that get into the tobacco and it does leave a fient taste. If you just lit up a yard gar it probably doesnt matter but if you just paid $10 and over for a cigar I'd sure use something better like 3x or 5x fuel.

Re: Zippos?
Well last night was the 4th (AMERICA!!! WOOO), and I broke a few sticks out for the people at my residence. Guy I live with got a Macanudo Jade, my girl got greedy and snagged one of my last Montecristo Media Noches (Jesus Christ the tax on those sticks made the price unbearable
), and I got my last Padilla Sig 1932.He lit his with his own zippo, so idk how the initial light was, but he seemed to really enjoy the cigar (veteran cigar smoker, 43 years old). Im 18, so Im less experienced, but my initial light was very spicy and with a lot of smoke; very, very open draw. I lit the girls for her since she was terrified to screw up and it was pretty mild and delicious (I looooove that cigar ). All around Id say it wasn't bad at all, with no real noticeable difference in flavor. I had been using the lighter to light fireworks all day, so I have no idea if that helped get rid of any built up fumes. |

Re: Zippos?
Its what I use 98% of the time. Zippo fluid may be a bit cleaner, I use Walgreens and as said let it burn a second or two before I toast.

Re: Zippos?
It's all mind over matter.
If you don't mind the fumes, then it doesn't matter. Persoanlly I only use butane or cedar strips. I would definitely use a Zippo over matches. Even if you let them burn off to a few seconds, matches always leave a rotten egg taste. But then, I know lots of people who won't use anything else. |
