digital hygrometer not calibrated?

I finally bought a digital Hygro...

When I put it in my humidors ... it read 87%! I immdiately panicked ...

My analogs all read around the same: 69-71%. I never calibrated any of them ... though I should have. I figured that since I was using lab quality propolene Glycol.... in all humidors and coolidors .. and the analogs all read close .. that I was keeping a fairly accurate level, and they were probably all close to accurate.
Anyway, my questions are:

Is it possible that 6 analogs are wrong? I mean, 87%?!? using PG? There really isn't much to these things ... the digital is new ...,

If, somehow (though I can't imagine how) I mean, even if I didn't get 50/50 on the PG/H2O .... PG still reacts with humidity in a way that keeps humidity levels (absorbtion/evaporation) around 69-71%.

OK. The real question. Did I ruin any of my cigars? Good grief. I really have a lot to lose on these. I did notice that a few of the "feet" were bulging a bit. I also noted that a few began to split while I was smoking them.. All indicators of too much humidity in the tobacco .. if I'm not mistaken.

I hate to think that raising the humidity levels (wouldn't have been for more than 3 weeks to a month) would change the taste ... as long as I took the levels down slowly.

A bit panicked here .... help greatly appreciated

Brian

Re: digital hygrometer not calibrated?

U should pull out any humidifying devices until your rh drops to 64% or so. I just bot a Caliber 3 digi for my big humi. after seasoning the box for 3 days, it was reading 64%, so I stocked the box with cigars. The analog on the same box is reading 60%. The Caliber 3 says it comes pre-tested and calibrated. I am choosing to trust it and doubt my analogs. if you want a Cal 3 for <$15 go on amazon.
