Question about NIBO VIP lighters
I saw a thread posted earlier this year praising NIBO VIP lighters. I like the fact that you get the DuPont look without the price. One question though, on NIBO's website I see that they offer NIBO brand fuel, but no replacement flints. I'm not all that famiar with the workings of lighters, so what flint would you get as a replacement? Thanks. My apologies for the perhaps naive question.

Re: Question about NIBO VIP lighters
Flints is flints. Unless they're too long to fit, any old flint should be fine.

Re: Question about NIBO VIP lighters
Generally any flint will fit a lighter, however I am not happy with the NIBO's I've had...had a NIBO Space 16 triple torch and a NIBO Old Boy pipe lighter...both crapped out on me in less than a year...the Space 16 after 6 months and the Old Boy after 3 months..supposedly NIBO has a warrenty policy but it's hard to use it as their policy is to return the lighter to the dealer if it's within the first year, and the dealer will replace it free of charge...yeah, right...if you buy them on ebay good luck getting an ebay seller to give you another one and take back the bad lighter...calling NIBO doesn't help much either, as they're in Canada and have no repair facilities...so you're sorta stuck...I've had trouble with Colibri's also..a Quantum Trifecta and a Firebird...both crapped out but you can send them to Colibri and the will repair or replace them...IMO the best lighters I have found to date have been the Blazers...they just keep working with no hassles...

Yeppers, been my experience as well. I have the Vip as well and its over a year old and still working quite well, but then again I haven't used it all that much. If your gonna light alot of cigars you'd be much better served by using Blazer, I have the PB-207 and I don't see any reason to use anything else to this point.

Re: Question about NIBO VIP lighters
I bought 2 VIPs several months ago when they where on sale at Bargain Humidors. I think they were $8.95 a piece. I liked the look and feel of the lighter and was also looking for a "soft" flame lighter at the time. One didn't work at all right out of the box. I called NIBO and asked for a replacement and they said "Sure, just ship it back to us." After figuring the postage to Canada and considering I didn't have hardly anything invested, I just threw it in the trash.
The second one still works fine, but it goes through butane like crazy. Seemed like I was always filling it. It sits in a drawer now. I don't like having to bother with filling lighters every other day. So I bought the PB-207 and haven't even touched my others since.

Re: Question about NIBO VIP lighters
Mark got me hooked on the PB-207 also. It is by far the best lighter of the 12 or so that I have used (or still use). Reliable, huge fuel tank =

Re: Question about NIBO VIP lighters
I have to disagree....Not all flints are created equally.
S.T. Dupont & Dunhill flints are much softer than others. They put less wear on the flintwheel. And theres also plenty of different sizes. Dupont makes 2 sizes. Dunhill makes 2, i believe the blue pack flints are closest to zippos sizes. Cartier and dior make special flints. Colibri has 'universal' ones. it all depends on the situation. i wouldnt use a zippo flint in a 600$ Dupont. Nor would i use the pricier and not as readily available Dunhill flint in a 20$ lighter. just my ![]()
