Hygrometer Question
I have xikar hygrometer and I done a salt test on it for around 20 hours and it stayed steady around 70/70. Well my cigars have been burning uneven and seem to be to wet so I've suspected there getting over humidified. Well all the sudden my hygrometer has been giving me weird reading in my room its telling me its nearly 80 degrees with 70% humidity lol, thus I took the back off and the battery has black corroded spot along with the metal piece that the battery attaches to. I don't know what to do, I'm want to ask you guys what do you think the best hygrometer for under $30 is?

Re: Hygrometer Question
I use the old Walmart ones for $6 and they seem pretty reliable. But never use or trust the analogs. I have thats been stuck of 70% since the day I had it.

Re: Hygrometer Question
I bought 65% beads from Heartfelt and threw the hygrometers away.

I have a 400 count humi, 19.5 L x 11 W x 15 H so how much of the heart felt beads would you recommend for this size humi? I still want a hygrometer just looking for some advice for a good one, accurate one. |

Re: Hygrometer Question
I just ordered the beads and the hygrometer from them last night. Their hygrometer is adjustable. As far as the amount of beads I think they have a formula on the heartfelt website and from what I read it is better to get more than needed than less..

The Caliber III's are excellent and very popular. Can't go wrong there.

Re: Hygrometer Question
Personally, Id just stick with the Xikar you have, although I am puzzled by it's seemingly inaccurate temp readings. The great thing about Xikar is that they will replace anything they sell. If you must get another, get the Western Caliber III.
If you look on the HF site, they tell you how many cubic inches each unit will control. Generally 1oz/540ci. Use the INTERNAL dimensions of your box to determine your needs. Rather than one large batch, I prefer to use two smaller ones in my 200ct box, separated as far apart as I can get them. The most economical method for you would be to get the half pound lot and two small mesh bags. 1/2lb would more than cover you. When charging these things, I really dislike the direct application of water approach, since the beads WILL crack. Even misting them will make them crack. Best to use a saturated sponge in a small container or plastic bag and let the beads charge passively.

Re: Hygrometer Question
Ok I'm starting to get irritated. I done a salt test on both of my digital hygrometers after 36 hours they both read 71% let them both sit and put them in again for another 36 hours both are at 71 again, but the thing is I'd look at them periodically I remember seeing them forever at 72, 73, 74 then for the longest time at 71 and never budged from there.
So I place both hygrometers in my humidor right beside each other and one was reading 66% while the the other was at 70% for god sakes what the hell is wrong. |

Re: Hygrometer Question
I use a Caliber III at the suggestion of a few puff members here and it has yet to disappoint. Very accurate, matched my calibrated analogue reading exactly.
