Heartfelt Humidity Beads

I have been useing the Boveda packs for some time now and love them.

For some reason I keep wanting to give the Heartfelt Humidity Beads a try. Everyone says get more then what you need. So I ask how much more?

The test Humi is 624 Cu inches.
Heartfelt Says for : 540 Cu inches use 1 ounce
1080 Cu inches use 2 ounces

So what do you guys think 1 2 3 4 or 5 ounces ?

Thanks Lance

Re: Heartfelt Humidity Beads

Well, if it were me I would order 1/2 lb. Plan for the future. You will need them one day! 1/2 lb will cover a 50 qt cooler.

Re: Heartfelt Humidity Beads

I will add this.
I will be going with the Tube or the Case for this set up.
Once I see if beads are something I like I will order a couple of pounds just to have on hand.

So another question would be. Would you use the Tube or Case?

The above advice is sound, but also placement plays a big role. I have a 200 ct box that I use two 1oz tubes in. I put one on the upper left and one on the lower right (three levels) and all is well in cigar paradise. No matter where I put the hygro (which I no longer need) I get the same reading.

If I put a 4oz case on the underside of the lid do you still think I would need to put a tube on the bottom? Top to bottom on the inside is only 6 inches.

Thanks Lance

Now you tell me humidity rises LOL. I didnt know that.
If thats the case the tubes would be the way to go right?
The case under the lid would save me some space. But if you guys dont think its the right way I wont go that route.
I am starting to think I should just keep with the packs but I always read about how good the beads are.

Thanks Lance

Re: Heartfelt Humidity Beads

I got over twice what I needed. If anything it helps to stabilize the humidity quicker, so long as you have the space for the beads.

Lance, you can use the tubes or use the bags. I have some in a pair of pantyhose and it works well. Can't hurt to have some on top and bottom though.

Thanks Brother. I am going to think about it some more. I am going to give the beads a try thats for sure. I just wanna keep it as simple as I can. Its only a 125 ct that will really hold about 60 smokes. I know 2oz should be more than I need but could use more than that.
So what I do know is that I will go with 4oz just to make sure I have more than enough. What I need to decide is :
1) 4oz tube
2) 2oz tubes
1) 4oz case
2) 2oz cases
1) 2oz tube and 1) 2oz case

LOL Am I thinking about this too much?

Thanks Lance

Re: Heartfelt Humidity Beads

Based on your decision I would go with the 2oz tubes x 2. This way if you do get another desktop you can get away with a 2 oz tube in each humi.

YES! lol

Like maduro' said, water vapor does rise. However, the point I think youre missing here is that your beads are NOT your humidification medium! What's really holding and releasing moisture is the cedar inside your box. All the beads are there to do is to regulate that moisture. Tobacco does the same thing. It absorbes and releases moisture. What the beads do is suck up moisture when there's too much and release a little when it gets too dry.

Think of your entire humidor "system" in terms of a "push/pull" relationship. Cedar absorbs and releases. A cigar absorbs and releases. Both do this at different rates. The beads are there to create balance. The florist foam we all grew up with only releases.

In a well seasoned humidor, well sealed, containing properly humidified cigars, you should almost never have to recharge your beads. In fact, the only reason you should ever have to, would be based (in theory) upon opening and closing the box, which results in some moisture loss.

In such a box, assuming it's kept 75% full and opened once a day and assuming an average ambient humidity of 40%, you should only have to recharge beads about every three months.

Hope this makes sense and helps you, Lance.

Re: Heartfelt Humidity Beads

Two 2 oz tubes is the way to go, or get a ½ lb bag and some pantyhose, which would keep you covered for future upgrades *and* be about half the price of the two tubes...
