Humido finally regulateing
Well its taken a few weeks, but my 125 count humidor is finally regulating. If you remember I had a problem(it seemed) when the a/c would be on the large front mounted hygro would go down to around 58-59 rh.
I finally received a caliber 3 and stuck it in the bottom of humidor, so I could see it through the front glass. While the front hygro would shour 60 the caliber 3 would be showing 65. It kept on going up one degree every two or three days, as to know, its a constant 68-69 degrees, no matter how much a/c or fans are being used. I have about 75 smokes in it. I know its working well also, because I found about 10 days ago while unpacking boxes, about ten cigars in a metal case that I had ordered from thompson about five years ago. Its just a metal case and no humidor effects. Most of the cigars were real hard, excpet for two in tubes( a r and j, and a macanudo robusto) They smoked pretty wel. Anyway, these old cigars have definately gotten some moisture in them. Some are going a lot slower then others. I am keeping them on the top divider, so as to have air flow top and bottom and not stacking over them. I hope to have some good smokes by the holidays. Now the new cheapo thompson 25-40 cigar humidor is another story. We all know that one pretty well. LOL First the hygro they sent me in non functioning. No change in a hot towel, no change in a salt test, dial never moves. After ten minutes on the phone, they agree to sen me a new one. It was the principal of the matter, since I have four caliber 3,s now. ON cigarextras, if you buy three for $60 they give your a forth one free. The problem with this humido is the rh is too high. I seasoned it just like the other one, and after a few days the rh is staying aroung 80. So I am in the process on leaving it open for 2 hours in a fairly warm room, just to dry out the cedar a bit. It feels a little too damp. Then I will close it up for a day and see what happens. Should I put some cheap cigars in it? Would that help it come down from the rh? I ordered yesterday from JR some of those perdomo en vidrio-el roasario. Ten for thiry bucks. They seem to have gotten good reviews, and its just the type of smell I like from a cigar during the fall and winter months. I am really looking forward to getting them. They ship today. Also,I am still experimenting with what I like, so I picked up the hell of a herf box, for 60 bucks. 20 decent cigars, I think well priced for the money. Plus now have a very wide selection to offer my buddies when they come over. They seem to be visiting me more often, since I have a humido set up, and a brand new pool table, and tennis table in the subbasement. I think if I put a couple of cots in they would sleep there. LOL Sorry for so many posts, and wordy posts. I am not trying to bother anyone, I just have a lot of excitement for my new hobby, and really have no one to discuss cigars with, and this site has been an absolute joy and godsend. Oh, one more thing, I look at for cigars, and passed by two old candy stores, that said cigars on their outside sun shades. One said Teamo on it. I went in, and asked if he had cigars he said no. I went to rear of the store, and I saw Two big old humidors(probably 3000 capicity each), which was now filled with batteries and aspiring and 5 hour energy things. (Indian owned) I went to the other store(which I had been in many times before)(also indian owned) and went to rear of candy story and lo and behold a huge cabinet(humidor) It was locked, but through the clear glass doors, every space was filled with a box of cigars, although most boxes only had a few cigars in it. I asked the vendor to open the door, but he was busy with customers in the front. I asked him, if I could have the key, so I could unlock it, and assured him I would lock it up. He immediately gave me the keys. He had a wide selection of r and j, macanudo, h uppman, and few others. I felt a few, and they all seemed fresh. (Fresher then most cigars I have gotten) I didnt want to leave without a purchase(even they they were on the costly side) But I purchased an H. Uppman coronas major and one of my old standbys the r y ju, reserva real. one was seven dollars and the uppman was eight. I know pretty expensive, but I appreciated the fellow having a cigar humidor with a selection, where you would never figure on. Much regards Jerry |

Re: Humido finally regulateing
Sounds like you have a handle on it.
I just got some of the perdomo robustos from JR. They look good Haven't tried one yet. I have one of the Thompson Humidors. Bought it with a sampler offer for $29.95 about two years ago. The cigars were dog rockets. The hygro was off a few. I put an oz of beads in it. It has a good seal and does a good job. I'd be interested to know what jR puts in the "Hell of a Herf" Sampler. Maybe you can post us the contents whenit arrives.

Re: Humido finally regulateing
In response to above, because I cant quote yet, I havent smoked the perdomos yet either. I looked at the reviews of them, and I expected a different smell to them, but I hope all those spice and pumpkin scents do come through. I took them out of the tubes, and put them in the humidor. I will wait a month I think before I try one. Probably the first day where theres a hint of fall.
If you smell it real carefully and slowly, there is a scent on them thats very familiar, and my better half said the same thing without me mentioning it, but I will keep this board family oriented . LOL I also have that cheap cherrywood humidor, with the 25 cigar sampler. It came with the humidor, 5 five packs of cigars and a butane lighter, for 25 bucks including shipping. Had to get it. After I seasoned it, the rh kept running high, but dropped down about one degree every two days. Its at 73 degrees now, and hopeing it will still go down, just using that small credo. The hell of a herf. Pretty much what the ad states. The brand and type of cigar , pretty much matched up, but a few were in slightly different sizes. A half inch shorter or longer, but pretty much what they promised. Three casa blancas, three montecristo platimnum, two macanudos cafe, three h uppman cameroon, two fonseca cubanso, one vegas de fornesca , three partagas(fabuloso, spanish roasado, serices s preferdo, and a three rome and juliets, (vintage 4, 1875, reserve maduro(which looks real nice). I think thats twenty. They show the msrp and 131. They cost me 60. The msrp is definatley what it would cost and probably more at the local b and m,s, but online I would say the cost would be around 100.(Just checked a few out, and interpolated. ) Much regards Jerry |
