Just wondering what this number is?

I was wondering if you guys could tell me what this number is on the boveda humidipaks that come in the fuente boxes. I want to use them to calibrate my hygros and I think each bag is "calibrated" to a specific humidity even though the all say 70% on the front the number in question says 69% or 67%. Im just curious if that indeed is the true rel humidity for each given pak.

pics included.

I don't know, my only guess is that maybe they test them before they leave the factory and that is what they tested it.

Re: Just wondering what this number is?

FYI - According to Boveda:

The number on the pack is the rH that you will get if you put it in a sealed container (ie. coolers, rubermaid containers, zip-lock, etc).

They will run "approx 2% lower" in a humidor, because wood breathes.

Of course, this assumes that:

1) Your humidor is already properly seasoned at the desired rH

2) Your humidor has a good seal

3) You are using the proper number of packs. The rule of thumb is: One for the humidor and one for every 50 sticks...more in extreme climates.

Just to make sure you understand, you can't accurately calibrate in the humidor. You may be running constant rH, but it's not necessarily accurate. For example, many people can't keep their rH up in cold weather, due to dry air wicking humidity from your humidor, so they maintain a constant 65% using 70% rated humidifiers.

In a sealed bag, no air is escaping, and you only have to worry about the moisture of the air.

In a humidor, you also have to worry about:

humidity of the wood
humidity of the cigars
humidity and temperature of your house
quality of your humidor (leaks)
How full is the humidor
etc.

As you can see, you are not guaranteed any specific value when using them in your humidor (approx 2% less is as accurate as they get). That's why you calibrate your hygrometer in a sealed bag (a known environment), so you can monitor the changes that occur in your humidor's ecosystem. If your packs can't keep up then you need to ad more, regardless of their rating.
