Im the New guy, now help me please....
Whats going on peoples, So im completely new to this wonderful world of cigars. I have been smoking for a little over two years. I usually just buy 2 at a time from the local smoke shops w/ a water pillow and call it a day. But for me Its time to get more adventrous, and step up my game. I have a few select favorite cigars. Nothing too out there, I love the Rocky Patel Vintage 1999 Conneticut's. By far my favorite, I dont know why its just... Me I guess. Im in the Navy, So I do travel quite a bit and have tried cigars from 13 different countries. I would like to go out on a limb and say that I have had cigars from Cuba (lots of them) and Im not impressed as some may be. I think the best cigars I have had came from either Trinidad, Curacaos, or Panama. Dont get me wrong I have had a few decent Cohibas, Monte Cristos and what not rolled in Havana, but they were not what I was expecting. Any ways Its time for me to get to the point of my post. I would like to find the *perfect* if there is a such thing Humidor, and where better to ask for opinions than this place... Let me tell you the things that im looking for... 1) Would like the capacity to be able to hold 2 box's at all times, and at least 2 other compartments for loose cigars. 2) A box that requires little upkeep and maximum reliabilty (being in the military I can be gone 6 months and I dont want to come home to dry/molded sticks)
3) I dont want something that can be found on ebay for $20, I like quality in everything that I purchase (I like to believe it will last longer) ![]() In short, throw a link at me with what you think is the best you know of. All help and opinions are greatly appreciated! |

Also Price is not that big of a deal, and I dont really need a box that will hold over 350 sticks.

Not to burst your bubble, but I dont know of a humidor, or any other medium that is maintenance free for 6mos at a go. Since it looks like youre also in The Old Dominion, heat is going to be a factor. I would recommend a Vinotemp or Edgestar wine fridge. There is a member here named ChasDen, who makes fantastic cedar drawers and shelves that can be configured to your needs and tastes. This will keep your sticks at optimum temp, but someone will still have to periodically recharge your humidity media of choice. I would STRONGLY recommend Heartfelt 65% humidity beads for this, but even with those, they'll need to be recharged more often than six months. Is there anyone you can have do this for you while youre away? If you absolutely positively must leave it unattended, I'd go with a few pounds of beads, rather than just the recommended minimum; nothing like gross overkill heh.
You could be in and out of such a rig for around $500 (far less if you go smaller than the usual 28 bottle) and if there's anything more maintenance free, I don't know about it.

Why not get a Rubbermaid 2.5 gallon tupperware container. They're pretty rugged and hold up very well if you move around/travel a lot. Line it up with some cedar sheets and you're in business. I have several of these. I haven't counted but they hold 80+ cigars with a lot of room to spare. Usually around $10 at Target or Wal-Mart.

Re: Im the New guy, now help me please....
Although I like your style and conservitive way of thinking... Im looking for a humidor thats what I think of when I think of a typical humidor. For me this is like purchasing a piece of Furniture, I want it to look good and match with the rest of the room w/ my computer desk and what not. However I love the idea of that rubbermaid for "sneaking" a couple box's of sticks back into the states.....

Re: Im the New guy, now help me please....
Well its my bed time, Its a 11 pm here for me... Im over seas on deployment by the way. I look foward to seeing what people post up for their opinions on a good humidor.. I have seen a bunch of websites out there, I just dont know if there is a typical go to site that is used by the forum members here or not... Here is a idea of what im looking for... Dont know anything about the company though.... the website is called mycigarhumidors.com and there is a 300 count and 350 count humidor.... I like the looks of them, but im also looking for something that comes with everything I need, I guess kind of like a starter kit....
Thanks for the help everyone, look foward to some replys in the morning! |
