DIY Humidor Question
Hi all. Been smoking for several years and now need a large humidor that will hold about 500 cigars (that is large to me). So I have decided to build my own basically retrofitting spanish cedar inside an enclosed nightstand with a good seal. Here is my question......
I want to know how to make a homemade electric/automatic humidy system. I know I can buy a cigar oasis XL that would do the trick, but would really like some other suggestions for less money. Any other ideas out there and if so fill me in. Cheers!! |

Re: DIY Humidor Question
Maybe beads and a fan but if you are going to house 500 cigars I would say spend the 100 bucks and get a Hydra or Oasis.

Re: DIY Humidor Question
it might not be a bad idea to get an oasis but if you can use a computer coolant fan that would be very reliable too.

Re: DIY Humidor Question
I am a huge supporter of 100% silcia sand crystals. They are cheap and effective. I couldn't even begin to imagine the cost of beads for a 500 ct humidor. Even if you build a humidification device or buy one, the crystals should help. I store about 125 cigars in a converted mini fridge.

Re: DIY Humidor Question
A good amount of beads and a fan to circulate air will do the trick quite well.
Even if you go for the Oasis make sure you throw in some Heartfelt beads as well because they can lower humidity when it gets too high. |

Re: DIY Humidor Question
500 cigars in a typical night stand really isn't a whole lot of volume. If it were my project, a pound of beads (half on top, half on bottom) and a fan in the middle. Done.
There are faaaar too many horror stories about hydras and oasis' for me to trust them. I know the beads will never break down, give a false reading, or start running incessantly.
