Second humidor recommendations?
Hi all,
My precious cargo of ten double-coronas arrived safe and sound last week. To my dismay, when I went to load them into the bottom of my humidor I discovered that the humidor was about 1/2" too short to accommodate these giant beauties. I had to re-organize the box so the new kids on the block would rest left-to-right instead of front-to-back. It also meant I could no longer use the divider. Additionally, once I put everything away, the humi was completely full and I had 4 or 5 cheapie toros left over. In short, I think I need a bigger humidor I'd like to keep my special-event cigars (some CCs, Opux-Xs and Don Carlos) mellowing for the winter but keep the more mundane sticks handier for day-to-day access.Since I didn't have the greatest luck seasoning my Cigar Star 50ct the first time out, I'm thinking I should probably get a 100-120 ct, season it properly and use it as my primary, and my current one as a backup if or when needed. I'm looking for something of good quality and construction; price is a consideration, but not the most important. I've seen some humidors out on eBay that look like knock-offs of more expensive but similar-looking ones, have too-small humidifiers inside (small round puck-sized humidifiers for large 2-level boxes), and who knows how well the glass is sealed in the really nice looking ones? What are your favorite brands and models? Which vendors are known to sell quality merchandise at fair prices? Who and what brands should I avoid? Since I don't foresee any additional box purchases for the rest of 2009 (just a couple of 5-packs should do me until it gets too cold to smoke outdoors), I don't think I need to worry about storing more than the 60 or so I have now and maybe another 10-15 on top of that. |

Re: Second humidor recommendations?
I went the Ebay route once on a cheap 300 count. I made it work, but won't do it again.
I bought my last one from cheaphumidors.com.

Coleman is a good brand. Igloo is another. I would get at least a 70 qt to start. Much larger and it can get too heavy.

Check out Cigarmonster. I got a Romeo & Julieta humidor for half price. I use it for all my "special" sticks. Unique design and strong cedar scent. I'm glad I snagged it.

Stop screwing around. You know you're going in that direction eventually. LOL

Re: Second humidor recommendations?
I have 4 humidors,,,1 coolerador and finally started getting these and trust me,,for the money you can't go wrong. I have two of these RubberMaids and keep a quater pound of beads in it for all my singles and 5 paks,,,,the RH is pegged at 65% and you seal and burp it and you're done. For $3.69 and it holds about 100-150 cigars:

Hrmmmm....I'm not really interested in going with a coolerdor or tupperdor (I'm using the latter right now for the extra few I have left over). The look of a finely crafter humi sitting on my desk or in the living room adds to the anticipation of a good smoke and a wee dram, IMHO. |

Oooh, and that almost perfectly matches the wall unit in my Home Theatre, too! Seriously, though, I will never be more than a 4 or 5 a week smoker, and since I can't light up inside the house, that means, what, 100 or 150 sticks a year, tops. Since I don't think there are ever any herfs in my neck of the woods, I also don't see my collection changing all that much up-or-down in the next while either. |

Re: Second humidor recommendations?
If you are going to a cabinet humidor - I would recomend a JC Pendigrast humi. They make the humidors for CA - and they did the Los Vegas Humis for Fuente. I have one - and they are fantastic. I can leave for 6 months, and never have to worry about any problems.
