Will this work?

Guys I need some advive here. The first week of October we are going on a family vacation. I plan on smoking a mininum of 10 sticks. As well as buying as many as I can at the various B&Ms .The only travel humidor I have is a small eight cigar model that I use for business trips. So I was wondering........ If I can use one of the empty cigar boxes that I keep in my coolidor. I do not have a humidifaication device, but I think I might be ok, because it is properly humidified as well as the cigars I put in it will be. I know many guys dry box for a few days with an unhumidified box, so I'm hoping this won't be a problem.

What do you think? Will it work?

Re: Will this work?

Are you planning on bringing a bunch of sticks home? If you take 8 in your travel box and can restock as you need to, I'd just take the travel box. If you plan on buying a bunch to bring home..different matter! Why not just get one of the cheap tupperware type lock containers? Easier than lugging a box and more airtight.

Re: Will this work?

Howdy T.Dub,

I think that gar box idea can work just fine if you carry it in a ziplock bag. The advantage is you have a prehumidified cedar gar house. The disadvantage is that ya gotta drag it in and out of the ziplock.
I have actually done this and it worked great. Although I did include a humidity device.... but I don't think it will hurt ya to not have one.
I think your prehumidified box will be fabulous.

The tupperware type approach is a quicker in and out access but lacks cedar character.

Perhaps the best solution might be to combine them. Putting the prehumidified box in some sort of tupperware container. The disadvantage to this is perhaps bulk....

Anyway, how long are ya going for?
Gonna do any fiishing?

.

Re: Will this work?

Hey fiddle, we are staying in Myrtle Beach for around 8 days. I rthink I will just fo the tupperware route seems a lot easier.
I don't think I'll have much time for fishing but I will definetely do some golfing, and a lot of cigar smoking.

Re: Will this work?

Hate to go against the grain but my first makeshift humi was a Ashton box that had the snap lid on it and two humi care packs. Was it perfect? No was it even pretty? Well that depends on what you expected to find inside. But it did serve me pretty well before I received my current humi as a birthday present. One nice feature of the box was that it is for the most part crush proof and now when I travel for business I basically use it as a travel humi. A little ghetto fabulous maybe but it works and it has kept my smokes pretty safe so far. I stay away from the bags now as I accidentally sat my computer bag on a bag of smokes and didn't realise it and was none to pleased...

Just my two cents

Whatever you choose to do have a great time!
