Oasis over humidifying?

I have a couple of friends who fell down the slippery slope with me a couple of years ago. I decided to use a cooler when my desktop humidor got full. CI was having a sale, so both of my friends bought identical 500 ct humidors (Indulgence Table Humidor - 500-Capacity - Cigars International). Both bought an Oasis unit, placed on the top tray.

They both keep their humidors at 70%. This measurement is based upon calibrated hygrometers, and not the worthless built-in hygrometer on the Oasis units. Both keep their humidors fully stocked and have been running for over a year.

Both of them had the same problem. Their sticks were hard as rocks and were obviously over humidified when you tried to smoke them. They used their desktop humidors for the cigars they plan to smoke in the near future, and their stockpiles stayed in the 500 ct humidors.

Frustrated, one friend took out the Oasis and now uses a dozen Humistat gel tubes scattered throughout. 2 months later, both are still running 70%, but the one using gel tubes now smokes great, and the one with the Oasis still has hard/wet sticks.

I personally calibrated their hygrometers, so I know they are accurate.

I don't want 10 posts saying I prefer 65%, because both are running at 70% and one smokes just fine. The rH setting is not the issue...per se. The only difference is that one of them ditched the Oasis for passive humidification. There's something about the active humidification causing the problem. I run passive humidifiers, so I' don't have any real experience with the Oasis other than helping them.

Anyone???

If I can't find an answer, then there might be a couple of used Oasis units for sale.

Re: Oasis over humidifying?

I have a Le Veil Humidifier and I have to keep an eye on it. If i want 65% I usually have to set it on 60% cause it will over shoot. Ive also had a problem when the cartridge gets low....the thing will just keep running and if I dont catch it in time my RH is in the high 70s. I dont think its very accurate at all. It would probably be the way to go if you had a humi with a bad seal or a large cabinet that gets opened alot but for coolerdors and nice tight humis I think beads are the cats meow. I switched to Heartfelt beads in my coolerdor last year and it works like a charm. Im going to dump my Le Veil in my 300 ct as soon as I remember to order some more beads.
