so i got 2 of these that came with the cigars i ordered. It says i need to add pg sol to keep them after a certain level. From what i can tell it looks like the same stuff as my drymist tubes. is pg sol really needed or can i just use distilled water?

Re: crystal puck question

I use distilled water in all mine. Never had a problem.

Re: crystal puck question

I was just about to post this exact same question. I couldn't find an answer with search either. From the web though, I saw that you can indeed just use distilled water (I will anyway). Couple of methods: 1 is to have a bowl of water and have the recharge happen over a long period of time. 2 another method is to just add some directly until the beads expand to the right level (risky) or 3 to use a spray bottle (unused preferably) until they expand to the desired amount.

Re: crystal puck question

the answers are mixing up crystals and beads. crystals are what is in Drymistat tube. they are initially charged with 50/50 solution, then refilled as needed with distilled water.

there is a specific product called the "Puck". The "Puck" comes with the silica type beads. They do not expand when you add water. These get charged with distilled water only.

if you have a round humidifier, and it is filled with the water cyrystals, then that product is just like the Drymistat, but in a different package. when you fiil the gel with the 50/50 solution, they expand, and look like little pieces of jello

Re: crystal puck question

The gel should already be treated with PG. That's what regulates the humidity. They will tell you to use more PG so they can have a recurring source of income.

The PG doesn't evaporate as easily as water, so it should stay in the gel. However, you may loose some if it dries out completely.

Just use distilled water. If your rH starts to get too high, then add some more PG, and go back to distilled water until you have problems again.
