Question OK for short-term storage?

Hey guys! I recently bought a small 20ct box for an over-flow, but then I got bombed and have more sticks than I have room for again! LOL! (Thanks Ji, Arnie, Shuckins). So my question is this; I left my digi hygro in the new 20ct for about an hour or so, and it was reading 60%, which to me is within reason to store cigars in.

I'm going to go to the store and grab another tupperdor for all these smokes, but in the mean time (only over night until tomorrow), is it ok to keep these in the new humi? I've put a drymistat tube in there with them, and the seal on this puppy is great! Thanks fellahs!

Re: OK for short-term storage?

You'll be fine. The cigars will hold their own humidity and since the humi is at 60 I doubt they will drop at all with the drymistat in there with them.

Haha Gary! Thanks guys, I think I'll hit the Container Store tomorrow mornin' though. The RH is dropping a little bit, but I think they'll be fine... Even at 55 they should be ok since I'll probably let em rest for a few weeks anyway

Get a container that "burps" so it doesn't lose the moisture it needs. Like I said before, I keep a quater pound of beads in mine and it rocks steady at 65RH.

Re: OK for short-term storage?

Here's what I'm running for overflow tupperdores:

That grey band around the inside edge is a rubber seal that rests against the upper lip of the box portion. I've always been a fan of OXO's rubber/silicone products and these are really great for our use. Got them at The Container Store (Crate&Barrel's brand) for 10 bucks a pop. Hold better RH than my wood boxes!

Re: OK for short-term storage?

Isaac, it looks like those seal well, but you know at some point, it'smore cost effective to just get a cooler from Wal-mart for 30 or 40 bucks.

So many uses for a cooler,,,beer, sandwiches, cook outs, beach and camping out and you never have to tell em that you might use it for cigar storage. That's just a side benefit.

Re: OK for short-term storage?

Ahaha that's an awesome idea... During the summer I can store my coke supply fresh from the fridge to regulate the temperature in there and put the cans on top of beads so the condensation charges the beads...
