Humidifier system for cabinet humidor
Hello Cigar Afficionado's,
I'm in the market searching for a cabinet humidor. I would like to know which would be the best device to use for humidification. I've heard people talk about Cigar Oasis mostly. I've found a cabinet humidor that I am interested in, however it does not have a power outlet installed. Do humidifer sytems (CigarOasis/Le Veil Digital Cigar Humidifier System/etc...) need a power outlet to be hooked up to? or do they run on batteries? Thank you for all the help guys. |

Re: Humidifier system for cabinet humidor
Welcome to puff. Most of the Humidification units come with this real thin cable that can be shut in doors or come out the lids of tops and not affect the seal of the door or lid. It is pretty cool.

Re: Humidifier system for cabinet humidor
It's hard to say which is "better". There are a variety of active humidification systems, and they have some trade-offs. Depending upon the size of the cabinet and your personal needs, some may be better suited than others. For instance, Oasis makes an XL model for larger humidors, so they're not really one size fits all solutions.
There are several things that may make some units better suited for your specific needs. Just depends on your priorities. How many fans can the unit drive? How much water capacity do you want/need? What is the cost/availability of consumables? Does it remember your settings if the power goes out? What is the cost? How loud is it? How reliable is the hygrometer on the unit? etc... For instance, humidity rises. So, if you're buying a very tall cabinet, then more fans will be beneficial to help mix the air. You could also wire your own fans instead, so you may not need a humidifier that supports multiple fans? Maybe you don't want to service it very often, so you want the most water capacity available? Like SMOKE20 said, I think they all have flat wires that can snake through the door crack. Maybe that flat wire won't be visually appealing if you bought a showpiece humidor. You could always drill a small hole for a cord. Cut the plug off so you won't need a big hole, run the wire through the humidor wall, put a replacement plug on it, then caulk around the hole to seal it again. You could install a power strip and run other accessories, such as: fans, lights, thermoelectric heating/cooling element, door alarm, retinal scanner, etc. I'm sure people will chime in to tell you what they do/don't like about a particular unit. There are lots of people who gave up on active humidification all together and use large quantities of beads scattered throughout their cabinet instead. |

Re: Humidifier system for cabinet humidor
I'm going with the Oasis XL Plus Cigar Oasis XL Plus Electronic Cigar Humidifiers
It also runs on batteries if you see fit. Not sure how long they would last though. Cheers, Brad |
