Humi temp too high?
Hi Cigar Lovers,
It's the first really hot day here in Australia and my three humis are sitting on 80 deg at the moment with it no doubt being higher during the day (it's 9pm here). With the summer still to come is this too high for a long period of time? Humidity is around the 65-70 mark in all three humis. In short, should I start looking for a cooler spot for the 'boys'? Re: Humi temp too high?
Yes that is too high. At those temps you are running a serious risk of raising a tobacco beetle farm.

![]() If its 80* in the 'dor - what is the temp in the room, 100*, 120*? Air conditioning down under? Cool(er) basement/cellar? Try laying icepacks around the dors (wrapped in something to prevent condensation from damaging the finish of the 'dor) or dry ice or something.

Re: Humi temp too high?
Keep them in a basement closet if possible. That's your best chance of reducing temps without active cooling.
I know that you can freeze cigars to kill any beetle eggs, bit I'm not sure if you can safely keep a collection above 80 even though your entire stock has previously been frozen. I have the opposite problem, and have trouble keeping them above 65F. If you live in a hot climate, then you may want to consider a thermo electric wine fridge. Search this site for the word VINOTEMP for more info. There are plenty of other brands that will work, Just make sure it doesn't have a compressor. |

Re: Humi temp too high?
Thanks for all of your answers and help. I have placed my humis in the coolest room in the house (wardrobe!) and this has made a difference.
I can't run the air-con during the day as no-one else is home... hey, I don't love my cigars THAT much! The Vinotemp looks good and will be my next step should the new location not work out. Thanks again! Tim |

Re: Humi temp too high?
Yeah, 80 is the magic "too high" number. Below that, it's much ado about nothing. Get that fridge! I hate the idea of my cigars being sequestered to the wardrobe. How'd you like it if mummy sent you to the wardrobe?
