Re: Dry box purpose?
Some people like to smoke their sticks when they are dryer than what you would store them in the humidor at. So the dry box is used to get them down the person's optimum smoking humidity.

Re: Dry box purpose?
Dryboxing is a way of reducing the RH already present in the cigar so what you try and accomplish is take the cigar out of it's present environment ( which could be 70/70 or 65/65,,,whatever you choose to put your cigars at) and then either put them in another box that has no RH device at all, no beads, and then let it set while the RH then starts to lower making the cigar more suitable to smoke and get a better draw.
This is something that you will learn with more experience and practice as to how you like your cigars. Some cigars are better after they are dryboxed because I tend to keep mine at 70/70 and some cigars smoke better at 65/65 so I will dry box them for 2 days. It's easier for me to keep all of my humis at one level rather than have different settings for all of them. Dryboxing is easy and pretty predictable when you know your inventory and how you like your cigars.

Plus the advantage is that it can improve the draw of a cigar. A lot of the time when a cigar has a tight draw, it's just because it's over-humidified.

Re: Dry box purpose?
Ok, I get it. Thanks for the lesson guys!
I was thinkin about making my 20 ct a dry box, but I don't really think I need it. I don't usually have any draw problems pulling smokes straight from the cooler. |

Re: Dry box purpose?
I don't see any advantage to dry boxing. Maybe if your humi is 80% RH and you have too! I keep my humi's at 65% and rest my cigars for at least a month before smoking, rarely have any issues.

Re: Dry box purpose?
I dont ussually dry box before I smoke but I think it could help with some of the issues in terms of draw or burn that I have had with certain smokes.

Re: Dry box purpose?
I was keeping my humi's at 70% and had the odd issue, dialed them back to 65% via Heartfelt Beads and so far I have had zero issues.
