Xikar Woes

Friends don't let drunk friends use thier xikars! At least that's my motto now. On a fishing trip this weekend I let a buddy see my Xikar when he asked.(Dumb Move) Next thing I know he dropped it and the thing disassembled itself. I manged to get it back together, but needless to say the thing works like crap now. When I pop the lock I have to force the thing open. Anyone know any tricks to getting my Xikar working smoothly again, or am I stuck sending it back to Xikar for repair? Also is this common when these things are dropped? This was the first time it's ever been dropped during my ownership so I really have not experienced this before. His excuse was it scared him when it popped open. I knew I should have brought my cheapo $1.00 cutter. So learn from me and always remember, don't let sh*t faced friends touch your Xikar.

Re: Xikar Woes

I would just send it back to Xikar and let them handle it. Far as I know it's covered and in my opinion should not come apart from a single simple drop. I have the Xi3 and have dropped it a couple of times in the closed position - no problems. This way if it needs sharpened they can do that at the same time.

I guess I've been lucky. Clearly, I need to stop getting drunk and dropping mine.

Re: Xikar Woes

From everything I hear Xikar's customer service is top notch, I'd go that route. My bro-in-law has dropped my Xi1 twice, still works great just a couple of scratches/dings. I gave him a Havana Cutter of his very own, now he's happy!

Re: Xikar Woes

Was at my local shop a few days ago when a customer dropped an Xikar and it sprang open in three pieces. The owner shrugged and said "Don't worry about it, the rep will replace it next time he comes in."

Not me...I sent my XiKAR back to the manufacturer...they put it back together, but now it works like absolute crap, just like you're describing. Not a happy XiKAR camper here.

Re: Xikar Woes

I've actually taken mine apart a couple of times to clean it really well. Kind of hard to get it back together but it is possible. I've found that if you tighten the little knob that releases to blades it helps the blade open smoother. Or you can send it back to the factory and have them clean and repair it.

Re: Xikar Woes

5th Dan is the man! Took it apart and it's as good as new. Didn't realize the little knob screws out. Doing that was what I needed to be able to put it back together the right way and not have it bind. You dah man, man!
