Re: Arizona Humi owners!

WOW! at those temps you should look at the edison-ador. A wine cooler turned humi. It's all over the boards, just look.

Re: Arizona Humi owners!

If you have one I would recommend putting your humidor in the basement , for starters . I'm not familiar with your part of the world so I don't know if ya'll have basements out there like we here in Jersey do .

Re: Arizona Humi owners!

Even worse then your high temps is dropping to 50% humidity...your cigars won't survive too long. Are you using beads? If not, get some yesterday. Perhaps a coolerador or even an edisonador in the basement is a solution.

Re: Arizona Humi owners!

Having temp problems in Florida also. RH holding steady at 63% with beads, but I can't get temp below 78 degrees. My electric bill is already through the roof. I know the blue freeze stuff doesn't work, I already tried that. What else can I try in the humi itself?

Re: Arizona Humi owners!

Get yourself one of these. Any brand will do. They're pretty cheap on ebay. The only thing I've had to do was wipe it down every week to get rid of the little condensation. It messes with the humidity.

I have a couple of boxes in there as well as my regular humidor filled up. I have had no problems regulating things pretty close to where it needs to be. If anything, it's a cheap stop gap for cooler temps until something more permanent. Out of the box, it's not fancy, but they do the job.

Re: Arizona Humi owners!

Having similar problems here in southern Nevada... After trying everything I could think of to keep my coolerdor cool, to no avail, I finally got a wine cooler and a controller. It's working great, except the thermolectrics are too small for my collection, so I went with a bigger compressor model and the humidity spikes when the compressor kicks on are troubling. Inside the boxes it's not too bad, five percent or so. I guess I can live with that, but I'm not finished tinkering. Unfortunately it's a lot of trial and error to get everything set just right.

And no, there are no basements out here. Unless you call the one in the back yard that's full of water a basement, with no house on it.

Good luck Hookem!

Re: Arizona Humi owners!

I am in Phoenix and run 76 degrees and 66 Humidity with no problems.

Been at that for about 3 months now. Im using Beads as well so I dont have to fill up a sponge humidifier every week because its so damn dry out here.

About once every 45-60 days now.

The temp has never been a problem for me. My humidor during the summer is at 80 degs and I keep the humidity @ 70%. No troubles . . . yet.

Re: Arizona Humi owners!

I live in AZ as well. I keep my coolerdor in the basement and have beads in it. The humidity stays dead on with the beads. Hard to keep them cool enough all the time but the basement stays in the low 70's.
I've been thinking of buying a wine cooler so I don't have to worry about the temps.

That's encouraging. How long have you been storing cigars at these temps?
Do you freeze them first?

Re: Arizona Humi owners!

I'd be pooping in my pants if my humidor temp was 72 degrees or higher!
I would strongly suggest a cooled unit by either Staebell or Avallo.

Maybey 80 degrees and 70% works for a small humi with a few sticks, but if you have an extensive collection with rare/vintage cigars......................no f'in way!

Nope. But I have not had a problem with bugs. It may be that I am lucky, but I have never had a problem and I have been smoking for many years. Now, if you have a large collection or expensive cigars that would cause heart break if lost it you need to cool them down just in case. It is not worth the risk. If I lost my cigars to bugs I would grumble and move on.

Or freeze them. There are a few threads on this topic in one of the forums. It does not seem all that difficult.

Re: Arizona Humi owners!

In all honesty, as long as you are 80 degrees or below you will be perfectly fine. If it gets above 80 and stays for more than a day then maybe you should start keeping an eye on them and making sure you don't see any signs of beetles. If you can't get the temperature to a level you want simply by relocating your humidor to a shadier spot in your home, try getting a small fan to blow over the outside of the box. This will move hot air away from the box and keep a little better circulation of the cooler air. That should be enough. If it still is having temperature problems, try going with a lower humidity at like 65% for a little while. Ask any southerner about the effects of humidity on the temperature and you will find the answer to be that the humidity tends to cause the temperature to increase drastically. If all else fails, you have two options, buy a wine cooler or rent a locker from your local premium cigar store.
