I firmly believe in trying to "buy it once" vs. settling for something that I will replace too soon. Correct me if I am wrong, FOGs, but wouldn't a coolerdor work until the budget could afford something that will make him happier in the long run?

Re: ebay humidor

Why do you have to buy from ebay? You can get very nice decent sized humidors from several internet retailers without spending a fortune. Most of the people I have seen on ebay charge ridiculus amounts for shipping. Check out some online retailers:

www.neptunecigar.com
www.tampahumidor.com
www.premiumhumidors.com
www.cheaphumidors.com

I have bought two humidors from neptunecigar and would buy from them again.

the options are almost unlimited, just check around.

One of the vendors from eBay I linked is tampahumidors, using a different user name, but the link is right in the auction. I believe cheaphumidors sells there too. I bought both my cabs from cheaphumidors and am pleased.

Didn't even check out the links, but you are right, one of them is tampahumidors. I guess it you can find it cheaper on ebay as compared to their website you can save some money (assuming shipping isn't that different, sometimes people include ebay fees in shipping costs).

Re: ebay humidor

I strongly suggest an ugly coolerador to start with. Get one at walmart, put a radio shack wireless digital hygro/temp in it, and buy heartfelt beads. This way you can use this coolerador for a while until you figure out how many you're going to store and the rate at which you buy and smoke Problem is you're going to start slipping down the slope and your humidor will be obsolete . Buying a humidor is a problem because you'll always buy one thats too small. Great for displaying cigars, but they fill quick. Save money now to INVEST in the best storage possible down the road. It might be a 500 ct. hunidor, an Antietam, or a wine cooler, but at least you'll give yourself time to read the boards, learn what you want to do and what others have done, and store a ton of stogies for cheap in a cooler.

Re: ebay humidor

I didnt make myself clear. I have a "tupperdor" and a desktop that stores most of the smokes. Me and the wife wanted something that can sit on the coffee table and look good. You cant do that with a cooler. Blue and red just dont match the living room

Re: ebay humidor

I always preach that high shipping prices = low quality items. Most of the times I've gotten burned on Ebay by getting terrible merchandise, the shipping price has been obscene. It's a tactic used to confuse people into bidding on something they interpret as a good deal. I suppose it's not always this way, but it's happened to me numerous times.

One such time was a humidor purchase. It wasn't from the same guy you in the auction you mentioned, but it's made me very wary of Ebay humidors. They cigar capacity was grossly over-exaggerated. We all know that humidor cigar capacity is seldom realistic, since we pack in cigars of many shapes and sizes, but this thing was easily advertised as having 100% more room than is actually in it. The overall quality is low and it looks cheap. Shipping was outrageous and I didn't get any more elaborate shipping than I would from any retailer. I recommend cheaphumidors.com, bargainhumidors.com, or tampahumidor.com since I've dealt with each of them and had good experiences.

What is the budget/capacity you're looking for?

Re: ebay humidor

Jeremy, not to put too fine a point on it, but "look good" and "inexpensive" are mutually exclusive, as in: there's no cheap Ferrari. If you can't find something quality in your budget, just hold off until you can afford what you want.

The pain of poor quality lasts far longer than the temporary pleasure of a low price.

Re: ebay humidor

Had the same thought; slept on it.
Decided I'd rather buy some beads, a cooler etc. and spend the $ not spent on the largish humidor I'd have needed to supplant my (decent 75 ct) desktop humi to account for box storage / aging on ummm.... you guessed it... CIGARS!

Yeah, sure, that makes sense. If you already have a 'show' humidor, then all you really need is backstock storage, since nobody will see it.
