Sap???

I just got my spanish cedar in from rockler. There is what looks to be sap on several of the planks that I bought. Is this normal. Do I need to remove the sap and if so how? This cedar is going to be used as shelves in my winecoolidor and only boxes will be sitting on them. If that matters. Thanks once again. Moon.

Edit- I just called Rockler they are checking there stock. This is not like a little bit of sap. These boards are 5"x14.5" and 3 of the 4 have sap on over half of the surface area. It is only on one side though so if the sap has no ill effects on my stogies I will put the sap side down and run with it.

Re: Sap???

I would wipe it off with a wet cloth. There may be a slight stain where the drop was.

Re: Sap???

I've had good luck blotting away sap on cedar with a little acetone or mineral spirits. Go easy and light on the solvent - use just enough to get the sap off.

Awesome to hear that. I'm going to be setting up my wine cooler in next month or so. I'll be dealing with them to get some cedar stock in.

Now... of course... you have to post some pictures up when you're done!
