Thermo Electric???
Does anyone have any idea about how much electricity these things use? I thought I read somewhere that these were not very efficient. I am in Florida and mine runs for about 15 minutes and is off for about 15 minutes in order to keep it at around 69 degrees. I know some people thought that it was running alot but my house is 77 degrees.
Any idea what this thing will run me per month? |

Re: Thermo Electric???
My instruction booklet says they take about the same to run as a 100w lightbulb. I supose this depends on size and temp desired though. They do seem to cycle a lot, but I don't think they're using all that much juice.

Re: Thermo Electric???
Most of the Peltier coolers draw about 4 to 6 amps depending on model. And they run on 12 volts. Would also depend on how many coolers your model is using.

Re: Thermo Electric???
I ran one for qutie some time, in the patio no less, and when I finally got rid of it, didn't really notice the difference in my electric bill. I am in Florida also.
My chiller for my fish tank runs 5 amps. That darn thing I notice on my bill. That eats up about $50 or so but the cooler you describe can't be all that bad. After Wilma and the subsequent FPL rate hikes, don't think we can be shocked all that much more. |

So lets say that yours only has one device in it and it runs at 6 amps. We know that it runs at 12 volts - so 6 amps x 12 volts = 72 watts. Now you also must have a power supply to change the AC to DC - and that should be listed somewhere on the wine cooler for it's amp draw and/or wattage. Will give you a pretty close idea to the amount of wattage that is being used when it's running. Ron |
