new humidor help

Well, my first humidor just arrived in the mail and I need help. I soaked the humidifier with the activator solution and threw in the seasoning pack. Should I leave them both in together or just the seasoning pack by itself for now? Also, the humidifier came with a little piece of velcro that wouldn't quite get the job done, so until I can confiscate some better velcro from work, is it o.k. to just set the humidifier in the bottom of the humi? Thanks in advance for helping a newbie and happy 4th of July

Hi Chuck.

I (and may others) feel the best way to season a humidor is to fill a small bowl with water and let the wood soak up the water vapor. Give it about a week and then check it.

Once it's seasoned, pick up the Humidi-Puck (www.HumidiPuck.com) or some beads - they are BY FAR the easiest way to regulate humidity.

Go slow with adding cigars as they will absorb moisture as well and can quickly lower your RH.

Happy smoking!

Re: new humidor help

Well depending on what size humidor you bought will depend on how long before you can add some cigars.

Like Mark stated, add www.heartfeltindustries.com beads or the puck and forget about it. You already wiped the inside down and have the humidifier inside.

To give you an idea my 500ct Vicksburg took only 3 days to level out before I could put cigars in.

If you don't have one already get yourself a digital hygrometer and ditch the analog.

Re: new humidor help

My humidor is 25-50 ct. I have the Boveda seasoning pack inside already. Seem like the next step, from what I hear, is the digital hygrometer. Do they really help that much more than the analog?

Re: new humidor help

The analog in my humi is a good 20% off. Digital is the only way to go. Check WalMart for the little $7 digital one. What ever you go with make sure and test it (search for salt test) and mark how far it is off. Good luck you might also want to search for coolerdor as well.
