Humi Problems
Tying to season my new humi. Wiped it down with distilled water and put in a small shotglass of water and let it sit. It has sat for two days. Now there is nothing but 65% beads in there, but my RH will not get below 80%. WHat the hell did I do wrong? I am getting frustrated with this.

Re: Humi Problems
Hey Jeremy -
A few suggestions - One, what is the temp? High temps will give you high RH readings. What size humi is this? Smaller humis don't require as much water at the start. Take out the beads and set them aside. When you put them in - did you charge them? And how much - all of them? Let the beads dry out some and then put them back in the case. They need to be able to absorb the extra RH in the case and they can't do that if they are already fully charged. Your RH should come down if the temps are cool, and the beads can absorb. Also - when you do install your smokes - be prepared for another RH swing - either high or low, but don't worry. Just let it go - it will come around. Ron |

Re: Humi Problems
I had a high RH for a bit, so I took the beads out and dried them out using a medium setting blow dryer. (Careful not to blow your beads everywhere!)
I put them back in, and the RH corrected itself by the next time I checked the hygrometer. |

Re: Humi Problems
Be patient it is normal for the RH to be high for quite a few days. Just relax and all will come together.
You did nothing wrong ![]()

Re: Humi Problems
Amen! Just give it a few days and keep the humi out of the sun. As for me, I would avoid wetting the humidor directly because that can cause the wood to swell...a good humi will just get hard to close and open and a less costly humidor may warp a bit. Sometimes a fraction of an inch in the seal can cause problems in maintaining a constant humidity.

Re: Humi Problems
this is a 150ct humi. The beads were done per the directions. About 60% of them are clear. I would say there is two ounces in there, is that about right? I will take the beads out and see if it corrects itself. I cant wait much longer. I need somewhere to put the smokes.

Re: Humi Problems
Here's another one for you...once you get it settled to the desired RH and you start adding sticks, the RH will probably drop BELOW what you want as the cigars will probably absorb some moisture....and so the fun begins.
Be patient grasshopper. The set up is the most trying part but 2 days is not nearly enough time. Proper seasoning takes about a week or more. Pull everything out and just leave a small bowl or shot glass of water in the humi for 5 more days. ~Mark |

Re: Humi Problems
As the others have stated, just needs time. It is frustrating as all get out. But in time it will settle down

Re: Humi Problems
Patience is the key. No one has asked so I will, have you calibrated your hygrometer? Are you using an analog (dial) or a digital hygrometer?

Re: Humi Problems
It is digital. I have tested it with the salt test and marked how much it was off. The humi is holding at 69 degrees. Humidity is still high though.

Re: Humi Problems
Dry your beads completly so they will soak up that extra moisture.

Re: Humi Problems
got to be the hygro. There is nothing but dry beads. It still reads almost 80%. I will go to Radio Shack this afternoon to see if they have a good one.

Re: Humi Problems
if you have got completely dry beads in there then it must be the hygro, i dont wipe mine down with distilled water because the cedar can abosrb too much water,i just use the shallow bowl of water for a few days method, then use beads to keep humidity constant.
