I searched before and came to find.. yes.. its possible and works very well if it closes well, and can store humidity. Heres a pic of the box, and it has a locking outside and good wood linings that i would think would work decent for nowatleast. What do you apes think?
( Too big to fit, so i have it in my photo's, Thanks alot guys) |

With a raised lip like that, I suspect it will work just fine. My only concern would be how quickly the wood looses moisture to the outside environment since it appears to be solid spanish cedar. Let us know how it works!

Re: Cigar box for a humidor?
Will do, i may go get a cheap humi. meter ( not an electric one) just a normal old fasioned one and see how it works... Should i season it?
after i get the little humi meter then ill see what its like in there, and see if i should just get a little humi device, with solution insted of the disposable one. Thanks again for any info |

Re: Cigar box for a humidor?
I saw a box that would make a great travel humi / cheap home humi while at the B&M the other day. There is a large Avo Anniversary box in stores now with a sort of fake leather covering. Looking at the box, it has a section in the end that would fit one of Vipers alu bead holders nicely.

Re: Cigar box for a humidor?
Guitarman-
Skip the analog hygrometer. They are absolutely worthless, and 99x out of 100, they are nowhere near accurate. My best advice if you want a hygrometer...Go to Walmart. They have a digital temp/hygrometer in the Hardware section. They have them starting as low as $6.97 a piece. I have found that they are fairly accurate (within 4% or so). If you salt test it, you will know exactly how off it is. Using that info, get yourself a hygrometer and see how well your box performs. |

Re: Cigar box for a humidor?
sounds good anough to me. Ive seen many in cigar shops, but are in the 20+$ range, and seems kindof pointless in buying one just to see if my little box works. but gor 8$ or so sounds perfect. And then with the 12$ i save... you know what that means.. I may have to get more...Sticks to test the hygrometer haha.
Thanks again- |

Re: Cigar box for a humidor?
I am currently using a Montecristo White series box as a humidor. Actually, I bought a box of Especial #3s and the shop had an empty box for $10 so I have two. I purchased a 1/2 lb of humi beads and put some of them in an aluminum cigar tube I drilled a bunch of tiny holes in (about one hole every 1/2 inch). One box has the humi beads and the other currently has two humi-stat tubes.
Anyway, it seems to be working perfectly, and my boxes stay at around 66-67% RH. ![]() |

If you're concerned with $$$ so much, why would you want to throw $8 in the trash. That is what you are doing by buying an analog hygro. NCRM's ![]() |

Re: Cigar box for a humidor?
the reason why is i wanto make sure the Humi. is at a good status. I do not want the temp to be too high or to low, so when the day comes i leave for awhile and come back i got sawdust, or wet newspaper
S.T- thanks guys again for the comments and help. i take ALL advice into consideration =] |

Re: Cigar box for a humidor?
Since we are on the topic of alternative humidors I was wondering if anyone could tell me if this would make a good tuperdor or not?
