Re: My Humi is readling low humidity!

If your humidor is new it takes about three weeks to level out RH. If your temp is high this will cause the RH to go down.

If you want an accurate reading you need to go digital. Are you using the beads? If so just make sure you keep about 60% of them clear by adding distilled water and you'll be fine until you get the new hygro.

Re: My Humi is readling low humidity!

I have always been told that the Western digital III is a better model. They are around the same price as well. I have not heard of many people who use that one, I have read several posts from people who use the digital III. Mine work great. The western digital III is not much bigger than that, it looks bigger in the pictures than it actually is.

Not bad. Mine is new but seems to have a problem showing the second digit of the temp . I'm sure it is just an isolated occurance. Pretty accurate as it reads at +1 RH.

As to your problem, get a digi as others suggested. Remember that patience is key here. Give the humi time to stabalize. I was in a similar spot as you not too long ago and the BOTL's helped me through my first humi. Now have two humis and a coolerdor. Slope is damn slippery.

If you get a digi hygro and it is still low consider some of the following:

- get beads. easier to maintain than the other methods. Nothing wrong with other humidifiers, just that it is a lot easier to maintain a particular RH with beads.

- pay attention to where you are keeping the humi. If it is near an AC or heat source it can/will effect the RH.

- how many times you keep opening and closing the humidor. Everytime you do you let RH out. If you live in a dry climate this could cause problems.

- Above all things, RELAX and enjoy. Some here told me that everything about cigars should be pleasant and enjoyable. We smoke to relieve stress not to have it pile on.

Good luck bro

I bought a Western Digital III and tested it as soon as I got it with a Humidipak Hygrometer Calibration Kit which is set at 75.5%. It tested dead balls on as far as I am concered. Since it does not show 10ths - It stayed mostly on 75% but would sometimes hit 76% since it cant display 75.5%

Okay - looks like your looking around for stuff and need some help here. So lets set you on the right path -

The Western Digitals can be found here:

Mark
Cigarmony Proprietor
www.Cigarmony.com

Mark is a member here (n2advnture) and is an excellent person to work with. Carries a lot of different items.

Instead of the Ci-Gel - what you see people talking about re: beads - are from another member here - Viper139

www.heartfeltindustries.com

You can order the beads in whatever humidity that you want - most of us use 65% - and they will do all the work for you. And they don't wear out. There really is no sense in spending the time and money on anything else.

Hope this gets you started -

Ron
