not to jack anyone elses thread/humi
Didnt want to jack anyone elses wine cooler/humi thread.
I have a mini fridge that I could convert into a humi. A couple of questions though. 1. How cold is too cold? I can keep it about 60*f with its own regulator 2. It has a small freezer at the top. No auto defrost. Could this be used as quarantine? 3. By plugging it in and using its own compressor/temp controller is it gonna suck the humidity out? Thanks JEremy

The problem I see with running a fridge for cigar storage is that most fridges now a-days come with de-humidification devices in them so you will lose a lot of moisture. I think you could use the fridge but I personally wouldn't turn it on. |

Well the plus side is that it does not have auto-defrost - that helps. The colder you get the slower the aging process is - 60 is not that far off - I would prefer 65 to 70.
I say try it and see. Stick a hydro in it - along with a humidifier and just turn it on and see what happens - can't hurt. If your humidity levels are close - I would expect them to rise once you get boxes in there, etc. At the worst you would need to add water on a regular basis. Try it without smokes in there and let us know how it works out. Ron |

Save the power...use it as a box. If you want to get creative cut a window in the door and put plexiglass in!! Then we want pics!

Re: not to jack anyone elses thread/humi
alright. I will try it without turning it on. It didnt hold 60 it dropped on to the lower 50's and I think thats probly too cold.
Now I am thinking it would hold a steady temp even with it turned off. You could always on a hot day, turn it on for a minute to cool it slightly; then turn it off. Right? Will put some beads in and see what happens. Now I just need some boxes ![]()

I'll be interested in hearing the results!
I have a mini-fridge sitting idle, and have been pondering putting it to such use. At the very least, it would make a dandy "new shipment" quarantine device... And would eliminate my wife's rather negative reaction to finding a new box of cigars nestled between her frozen fish and chops! |

Re: not to jack anyone elses thread/humi
The beauty of using a fridge/freezer is that if you can get it low enough and find beetles, you can very easily just freeze the lot. other than that id keep it around 70 deg.
