Can a Desktop Humidor be too full?

Can a Desktop Humidor be too full? I just got some Jr Jamaicans and when I was done putting them into my small desktop humidor which had a few already in it already, it was absolutely full... Not 1 more cigar could fit in there. Is this ok? (it closes fully)

I do have a cooler which I just got set up with beads, so I could transfer some over if necessary (the cooler is empty at the moment except beads and hygro).

Thanks in advance for the advice.

As long as you don't buy any more cigars, it shouldn't be full any more by next week, right?

Some will say you should have a bit of air space for circulation. MRN says very air-tight for longterm aging. So back to your situation, I think it's fine if it's short-term, or if you don't open the humi too much (since circulation would only be important to rehumidify if lots of opening the humi causes a humidity drop)

Desktops can get too full-when then lid no longer closes is a good clue! other than that fill it up!

Be careful not to over fill the humidor. If cigars touch the humdity element, the element could transfer water directly on the cigars and that would not be good. As long the element does not touch the cigars, you should be good.

Then again, if the humidor is that full, you probably don't need the element in anyway; they should stay humid for a little while.

Good point, I have a hocky puck shaped thing holding beads which are in pany hose. I dont think it's touching any cigars, but its kind hard to tell.

Re: Can a Desktop Humidor be too full?

I have had my first desktop huidor full to the tippy top for over 6 months now. I picked up a few bundles and it just made sense to pack them in there. It acually makes the most efficient use of the humidification the fuller it is. The less air in ther humidor (physically displaced by stogies) the less work the humidification device has to perform. It's a bad period if the RH drops in mine 2 points over a 3 month period. It has just the regular green foam in the round lid mount canister. I never touch it anymore. Solid 68 for about ever! And dayum the Habanos Puros I've had in there for a while are tasting better and better after each passing month(s). Filler up. And like it has been said ensure to keep the humidfication from touching directly. Other than that no worries.

I would not worry about it since your using beads. Other than that - long as the lid shuts your good to go -

Moses is right, one of mine is full to the brim and has been holding steady at 70% with no element for at least a month now

Re: Can a Desktop Humidor be too full?

I have found the same to be true. 110 cigars in a 100 count humidor and the humidity stays right at 70. Recharge it every 1.5 months. When I don't go in that humidor for awhile I am convinced the hygrometer is broken because it doesn't move. Everytime, I feel compelled to leave it open to watch the humidity drop to @65. At that point I am convinced the hygormeter is functioning and put my worries to rest as it returns to 70% and stays that way for the next 6 weeks. A full humidor stays very stable from my experience.

Major point, already mentioned, make sure humidifying element is not touching cigars - even if they are in cello.

Re: Can a Desktop Humidor be too full?

I was running a desktop on full for a while (could squeeqe no more in) and it had no adverse affects, then I went and bought a cooler and got that to the full stage as well, and just yesterday I got hold of a very nice Cohiba Sublimes box which holds humidity nicely (with a bag of beads) so I have a little bit of space to play with

I would say the only problem you have is solved by having the cooler ready for your next purchases. Well there is still the problem with that cooler being empty I guess.
