Talk me into it

Maybe I'm brainwashed or just plain stupid ...

I've been using Drymistat tubes for about a year ... perefect 70% rh. Except for a handful of cigars, everything has smoked great.

Recently had a tight draw on a Party Short and Monte 4. It seemed and tasted like that they might be a little on the damp side. After a martini, I ordered 7-1 oz 65% tubes from Viper for my 200 ct humi. However, since then, everything has smoked REALLY good.

I know the beads are better. I hear so much about the preference for 65% rh. For some unknown reason, I just can't seem to pull the trigger and replace the Drymistats with the beads.

Re: Talk me into it

I was in the same situation, going to 65% was a great move. Everything burns WAY better. I heard DaKlugs talking about 60%, not sure though. Anyway the 70% beads will make a nice gift to a newb.

Re: Talk me into it

Go with whatever works for you. I personally use the beads, but thats because its the only other humidification device I've ever had besides the floral foam. If I had bought the Drymistat tubes first, and they worked, I probably would have stuck with those.

Yeah, it's that fear of losing something that seems to work for something that might work even better. It's also that old question of 70% v. 65%.

Re: Talk me into it

I have used drymistats in my 9qt cooler, keeps my smokes at plus or minus 70%. I had one now in my desktop humi that kept it at around 71 or 72% and since receiving 65% beads from float I transfered my drymistat tube to my other 9qt cooler that I just got done setting up today to transfer cigars to make room for my boli pcs I just ordered. Its been a few days now and my desktop still is around 72%, does it take a while for the beads to get the rh down to 65%. Personally I like the drymistat but thats probably because I havent really seen the potential of the beads yet.

When you can't decide which one to buy, or use,
"Should I get the 00 Grand Espanias or the 01 Monarchs" .....

Do what everyone would do if they had the money -- buy both.
There are some NCs that I wouldn't mind keeping at 70%.

Re: Talk me into it

Thanks for all of the encouragement to help this wuss do what I know I should do.

The Habanos seem to be crowding out the NCs in my desktop. But I still have a lot of NCs in a coolerdor. All of the "kids" here in the jungle seem to belive that Cubans smoke better at 65%. galaga raised an interesting point ... do NCs smoke better at 70%?

Btw, I had my hopes up that the beads might slow down this bald spot that seems to be growing at the top of my head ... darn the luck.

I actually use both, and find that the 65% help to regulate the drymists sticks. I have the best luck on my sticks smoking the N/Cs around 65%, and the cubans around 60%. Anything over about 68% on the N/Cs, and I start having real troubles with tunneling. The cubans seem to smoke best for me around 60%, but anything between 60 and 65 seems to work just fine, so I don't get real bent out of shape as long as the cuban humi stays between 60 and 65%, which for me, is easily maintained.

Good luck (and go ahead and bite the bullet and get cubans their own humi!)
