If I was him I would be just as thrilled as having one to open.
I would definitely have to agree with RGD on this. For me, buying my humidor was a bit of a personal experience and I don't think I would have wanted someone to buy me one without me seeing it first.

I personally would do what RGD said and buy him a hygrometer or some other humidor accessory and then tell him you will buy him a humidor that he picks out. For me knowing that my girlfriend was at least buying me a humidor and taking an interest in my hobby would make me happy enough.

Re: Buying humidor for boyfriend

I would have to say as a new member and cigar smoker, just starting to do some research and everything, that there are just too many options. It would be too easy for someone to get something I didnt like.

Some of the worst gifts I have recieved are ones that start with the phrase " I saw this, and thought of you, and knew you would like it..."

Thanks guys, for all your input. I am still searching for that one humidor that catches my eye that I know my boyfriend will love. If I don't find it, then I will let him pick one out himself.

What I'm envisioning is a glass top humidor with a digital hygrometer and humi-care crystal compatible, able to hold about 100 cigars, and ranging from $100-$150.

Does such an animal exist?!?!

Samantha, welcome to Club Stogie.

If this is your speed, I have one left. It's absolutely stunning, and a gorgeous centerpiece for any lover of the leaf.

A few of the fellas here have bought the other units on my site, this one is the last. The humidor was destined to be a Diamond Crown Versailles that has a list price of $900-ish, but some minor cosmetic flaws caused them to be rejected by quality control.

I'm asking $125, and I pay for shipping. More high-res photos on my personal website here: CLICKY

IMO, you can't ask for a more beautiful humidor. If you're interested, feel free to PM or Email me and we can work it out. Maybe a couple of my fellow BOTLs who bought theirs from me can chime in here and add their two cents with their thoughts.

I suggest you have a look at the humidors here:

http://www.tampahumidor.com/sitedire...45610727067CA2

They have many glass tops that are in your price range. They also make very high quality humidors, I know because my friend has one.

Re: Buying humidor for boyfriend

Samantha,

hammerhead is an upstanding gorilla. Get the digital hygrometer at radioshack and you are still within the $150 budget. Also consider buying heartfeld beads to regulate humidity and you should be right at or slightly above $150.

I'd say that is the gift that should have been many hundred of dollars in a regular retail store, and your love one should be very pleased.

if you can squeeze out another 30 or so i'd also fill it with something like the Famous 3000 series cigars. it's an unbanded cigar of very high quality -much higher than the $30 or so that you can buy a bundle for. Put all of this together and i think you will have created a perfect gift at an unbelievable price.

now, you won't be able to top this in the future though...

Re: Buying humidor for boyfriend

Samantha, PAR's got a point. If you're interested, I have some 65% humidification beads to spare, and could put together a humidification element so that all you'd need to do is season the humidor, and add cigars. It would add about $20 or so to the price (to cover the cost of the element case and beads), but it's oh, so worth it. Obviously, I use the beads myself and have been thrilled with them.

Samantha
For the most part I agree with RGD....but I can assure you anyone would be thrilled with the humidor Hammerhead is offering. You would be starting him off with exceptional quality, and getting a bargain basement price to boot.
Good luck, whatever you decide.

I think the 300ct humi is a nice looking (and much more spacious) humi.

Re: Buying humidor for boyfriend

The 300ct is the much much nicer of the 3.

As an aside, why dont more humidors come with lighter/cutter drawers... if that 300ct had an accessory drawer at the bottom, it would really be perfect.

Re: Buying humidor for boyfriend

I have two of these and they look and work great. I just bought a western digital III hygrometer and it sits in the top shelf so I can monitor the RH/Temp through the glass.

So far I am still using the humidifier that came with the humidor and activation solution and have not had any problems. One day I might switch to beads, but for now everything has been stable for more than a month.

I would say the only problem is placement of the humidifier and not having cigars roll up right next to it. I just got an extra divider and walled of the humidifier. If you went with beads in a tube, this would not be a problem.

just my

Re: Buying humidor for boyfriend

Yah, I'm with those guys. Of the three, this one is the nicest, though I'm not a big fan of glass top humis, nor of hygrometers mounted on the exterior.
