Question Buying humidor for boyfriend

Hey all ~

My boyfriend's birthday is coming up, and I know he has been wanting to get a new humidor. I've been searching around on internet sites as well as ebay, and could use a little help in choosing a decent, moderately priced humidor. Are there any particular brands I should lean towards or avoid?

I've gathered that a digital hygrometer is better than analog, and to purchase a size somewhat larger than what you would store....

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

~Samantha

Re: Buying humidor for boyfriend

Digital hygros are definitely better than analog.

The real concern with a quality humidor is a good seal. And yes, bigger is better

please feel free to pm if you have any questions regarding a specific humi

Hope this helps

Samantha,
You will get tons of suggestions here. But first you will probably have to answer some questions like How much is in your budget? and How large a humidor? Desktop? Or Cabinet?
Stay tuned. Club Stogie is a VERY helpful place.

IMO, you can't beat this one for the price, plus it comes with a digital hygro. I have two of them and love them. Good luck!

Thanks for all your suggestions! I am looking to spend around $100 or so, and would like the humidor to hold at least 50 cigars....

Is it just me? Or does anyone else find a humi like that unattractive? I cant see a huge box like that sitting ontop of anything in my house.

Now maybe if we added shelves with display windows in front, that would be different

Re: Buying humidor for boyfriend

I found my first humidor on ebay for around $40. It's just a simple desktop humidor, and holds between 75 - 100 (depending on size of the cigars). You can find a lot of good deals on good humidors. I also agree that you want to get a digital hygrometer. Western Calibers have always been good. Maybe you want to plan ahead and grab some propylene glycol and a gallon of distilled water? (just a thought) If you're able to find a good humidor at a lower price, that saves more money for accessories! (think cutter/punch, lighter)

Your boyfriend is certainly a lucky man!

good luck

It is not that huge at all. It is a very attractive piece of furniture. Slightly taller than a typical desktop monitor.

Re: Buying humidor for boyfriend

I have a Savoy by Ashton that is very nice for the money as well. They aren't a big for $ but are of great quality.

I have also been using this one in my office for a few months and love it so far!

Now Samantha - where were you 30 years ago - Your boyfriend is lucky to have you!

Now I'm going to give a little different view here - my wife has bought two small humidors for me over the years - and honestly - I really didn't like them. A humidor to some guys is and can be a very personal item.

I'd suggest that you let him help you pick out one that he would like. You could buy the digital hygrometer - box it and put in a card that now you two need to find a humidor to go with it . . . or something along those lines.

If I was him I would be just as thrilled as having one to open.

Good luck to both of you -

Ron

Re: Buying humidor for boyfriend

I have to agree with NC (and others) on the Vicksburgh. Got one 6 months and couldn't be happier with it.
As others will caution, might as well get a bigger one than you think (ie Vicksburgh) because more than likely he will need it as his collection expands.

I started with a humidor from http://www.cubancrafters.com/accesso...gory/CLOSEOUTS. I still have it and it is great. Scratch/Dent closeout supposedly but there was not a scratch on it - I have heard the same from others. If they are not available when you log on, just keep checking they will put more on sale eventually. There happens to be a good selection available today. I specifically like this one: http://www.cubancrafters.com/products.php/item_id/330

Good luck I am sure he will appreciate whatever you find for him

I'm going to second what Ron said here. Yes, it could ruin the surprise or gift-giving feeling, yet this is like ring shopping for women. Some just want it while others want to pick one out personally. If you think he could be somewhat picky with a humidor, I'd say go with Ron's idea. More importantly, you two would be picking it out and would make it that much more special.

Just my

Good luck and great gift idea. He'll be happy any way you go.
