Over 50 singles and only a tupperdor and a 20ct humi
Hello All,
So I have amassed quite a collection of singles over the last few weeks. The problem is that I only have a 20ct humi and a tupperdor. I am wondering if I should even consider this a problem? The problem I see, is that I can only fit about 15 cigars in the 20ct humidor, so all the rest are going in my tupperdor. I have about 3 small sheets of spanish cedar in the tupperdor i recieved with 5 packs. Will having about 40 singles within a tupperdor cause problems? Should I consider buying a larger "real" humidor? Should I consider possibly buying a cedar tray to put inside my tupperdor? What would you all suggest or maybe suggest nothing and tell me not to worry about it. Thanks for the help! -T2 |

Just go get a cooler
![]() If you're at 40 now, you will be at 400 in a few weeks/month. I made it from 3-4 in a dry box at the beginning of July to 120 (an overflowing Humidor... probably getting a cooler soon) as of right now. |

You also need to get yourself some beads from Heartfelt. I am on a different computer so I can't post a link, but do a search for beads and you will find some posts. The cedar won't keep your humidity levels where you want them.
A cooler is probably the cheapest way to go. I joined this site in June and have 2 100ct humis and a 20 ct and they are all full You will need more room if you play with the gorillas. |

Get a cooler and some boxes to your singles in. Beads is only way to go.

Re: Over 50 singles and only a tupperdor and a 20ct humi
If I'm reading your questions correctly, you are concerned about not having enough cedar in your tupperdor.
You really don't need alot of cedar, IMO, to keep a well humidified container. As mention, get some beads to stabilize your setup. You can use empty, cedar cigar boxes or simply break the boxes up and put them in. This will suppliment the cedar. Good luck |

As others have said, coolers are a cheap and efficient means of mass storage.
To answer your question, however, there is nothing wrong with keeping forty cigars in a tupperdor as long as you keep them properly humidified--don't worry about the amount of cedar. Stick a hygrometer in there, make sure it's reading what you want (I like 60-65%), and adjust accordingly--you can do this with beads, foam, solutions, or a moist paper towel. When you're ready for some serious storage, then beads are, in my opinion, the way to go. |

Re: Over 50 singles and only a tupperdor and a 20ct humi
I guess it depends on how many cigars you think you are going to be storing. If you can't stop buying, some of us have this problem, then get a cooler or a very large humidor like the vicksburg (http://www.bargainhumidors.com/bh/Pr...uctid=HUM-BH2).
Recently, I noticed my two 100 count humidors were looking rather full and I can't really setup a coolerdor yet (don't want the opportunity to fill it, as I know I will and my wife would kill me). So I decided to start a little smaller and go with a large tupperdor setup that is so far working extremely well. I went with the 16.9 quart keep box from the container store, it has a white seal and snap tight lead to store food. http://www.containerstore.com/browse...5&PRODID=60176 I then bought a couple of the vented utility bins for singles storage. I went with the smallest ones as they fit petite coronas perfectly. Each one can hold about 10-15 petite coronas. I have a couple of the large ones as well that I might use in the future as they are a little wider. http://www.containerstore.com/browse...3&PRODID=69694 The fit isn't perfect, so you have some extra (wasted) space around the sides. I looked into getting some of the cedar trays from bargainhumidors, however, they won't fit at the bottom (I tested a tray from my humidor that is slighty smaller and it wouldn't fit). I put some cedar boxes from fivers I purchased at the bottom to store some cigars and have everything else in the pastic trays. I had some extra cedar dividers that I use to add some space between the trays, but I don't think this is necessary. Some people line these trays with thin pieces of cedar, unfortunately, I don't have any of those at the moment. http://www.clubstogie.com/vb/showthr...stic+container So far it is holding about 50 cigars and I plan to put another 15 petite coronas into it. It could probably hold a lot more if I remove the cedar boxes and went with just trays. You might be able to find some trays elsewhere that fit better to add more space for cigar storage. I was only looking for something that would hold between 50-100 cigars to lighten the load on my humidors (which now have extra space for more cigars). I have put a stop to my spending for a while until I can smoke some of my inventory. I have been fighting a sinus infection and have not been able to smoke for the last 2-3 weeks, however that will change this weekend. For humidity control, I am using boveda packets at the moment (I have four - 69%, could probably use less), since they are extremely easy to use and I had some lying around that I got pretty cheap. Eventually I will probably go with beads, however, I was looking to get this thing up and running quickly as I have more cigars incoming. I figured my 100 count humidor is suppose to take three of the packets, so this container has about twice the volume, I figured I would start with four (six seemed a little much for a plastic container). If the packets last 6 or so months (they say three, but we'll see), I should be good for a while. If you don't include the boveda packets or a Western digital III (to monitor temperature and RH), the whole setup costs less than 25 bucks for the container and the trays.

Re: Over 50 singles and only a tupperdor and a 20ct humi
Thanks for all the tips.
I guess what I'm asking is if storing 50 singles in a tupperdor is safe and a decent place to put a bunch of singles or if I should buy a real spanish cedar humidor instead. BTW, I do have humidity beads and a digi hygro. |

Re: Over 50 singles and only a tupperdor and a 20ct humi
I read somewhere on the forum about someone who got empty cigar boxes from a B&M and used them as trays in a tupperdore.

I like the cooler because It's cheap(and that leaves more money for cigars!) , portable and dosen't take up that much space. Incidently, I knew a guy once who kept all his cigars(easily 1000+) in a giant Omaha Steaks styrofoam crate-"They don't build humidors that big" he'd tell me. it worked for him, I guess! |
