New Humi/seasoning & bead??

I just picked up another humidor and have started the seasoning process. Is patients still just as important if you are using beads for humidification? I switched my other humidors over a little while back and I love the beads. Any input would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jeremy

With any new humidor, you have to be patient regardless of the humidification device. The wood in the humi needs to "season" by absorbing moisture, otherwise, whenever you put your sticks in it the wood will suck the moisture right out of them.

Give it at least a week for the wood to reach their saturation point.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, for the reply, I have seasoned 3 other humidors and was always patient. I was just not sure with the use of beads, would it allow sticks to be introduced sooner, since the beads should continue to release moisture until 70% is constant.

I look more at 2-3 weeks to season a humi ... yeah, I'm taking it to the extreme but it works.

Beads are GREAT! Anyone want to buy a lot of old Drymistat tubes?

Patience is still necessary even with the beads. No matter what the source of the moisture is it takes time for the wood to absorb the amount of moisture a good seasoning requires. Keeping the beads hydrated will help, so add distilled water often as the beads start to go white. Try to keep about 80% of the beads clear during the process so that there is pleanty of moisture available for the humidor wood.

I use to use the Drymistat - they seemed not to be working very well so I cleaned them out - rinsed them real well with distilled water and filled them up with beads.

I keep two of them dry and two wet. Use them where they are needed in the various humis and coolers I have - to include the two travel boxes. They work very well.

Re: New Humi/seasoning & bead??

I tried Drymastats in my first humidor. IMHO they are useless. They never seemed to work. I had better luck with the floral foam. I do have one friend who uses them in his desk top and loves them. I have 4 or 5 and now only use them for the travel humi.
