Which multi-sensor wireless hygrometer/thermometer?

I need to purchase my first hygrometer/thermometer setup and I need to know which one you guys recommend. I see one at Radio Shack for $40 but I don't think it accepts multiple sensors (for multiple humidors). Oregon Scientific has 435343123423423 different models to choose from. What do you guys use and what do you recommend? I'll need to model numbers as well

Thanks!

Re: Which multi-sensor wireless hygrometer/thermometer?

Joey, you'd get this answer if you used the search function, but if you're talking about this one below, it is a wireless unit and does accept up to three sensors. I have a similar one bought on sale at Target which looks a bit different and has a backlit display for about $30 on closeout.

CLICKY

I definitely think they're worth it. Takes a lot of guesswork out of managing your humidors. The consensus is that most of these consumer-grade units are accurate in a range of +/- 5%, and that if you salt test each sensor so you know how far it's off. These units, and beads, are the way to go.

If you decide to go with the OS brand units, I'd suggest you take a look at my Wireless Sensor Fix DIY Project on my website. CLICKY

Re: Which multi-sensor wireless hygrometer/thermometer?

I just bought one of these last week for $17.97 at a local RS as recommended in another CS thread. It has three channels and comes with one remote sensor. I keep the base unit in my den and have the humidor in a bedroom that has AC. The display is easy to read even from several feet away. RS didn't have any spare sensors in stock. BTW, for whatever reason, mine came with two identical user manuals, both of them in Spanish. Fortunately RS has a downloadable user manual on their web site. I printed a copy of it and keep it in the accessory drawer of my humidor. Some of the reviews at RS are negative. That may be because they have the remote sensor outdoors. So far I haven't had any problem with the base unit losing contact with the sensor, and the atomic clock works. When I set up the base unit, the atomic clock didn't pick up a signal so I set the clock manually using my watch for the time. The next day I noticed the atomic clock was reading a couple of minutes faster than my watch. It must have picked up the signal during the night and reset itself. It now agrees with my computer which is sync'd to a web site for the exact time.

That's the price at my Radio Shack. You may have been looking at a different product for $40. It's advertised at that price on the website, too.

Joey, they have been on sale recently.

Use CS SEARCH ("radio shack").

There are a couple / three threads discussing the units, their capabilities, use, accuracy, where to get them, the sensors, etc. Most of these threads are very recent. Everything you need to know...

Love mine.

I got mine at two separate RS in Hillsboro.

6691 SE TUALATIN VLY HWY (two remotes)

and

550 S E 10TH (base station and two more remotes)

I think the remotes were ~$9.00 and ~17.00 for the base station.

The remotes are all reading low by 3%RH ( via salt method). Thought I had a bad one (why I now have 4), but it was pilot error.

Hammerhead, I don't even have one of these things, but I checked out your webpage, and it's just awesome! It's so well written and photographed, that it makes me want to go buy one just to do the flippin' project!

Heh... glad you enjoyed it. Feel free to give me a shout if you need a hand, but I think I got it all covered in the write-up.

Re: Which multi-sensor wireless hygrometer/thermometer?

search for "BAR608HGA" on ebay and see what you get... I paid about 22.00 plus shipping for mine.
