Got to keep a cheap box good!!! Advise?

I was one of the many lucky recepients of the famous smoke deal of La Veija Habana's that i am going to pass out at a pre wedding golf tourney in a month. Trust me i can't wait to fall down the slippery slope and construct an epic coolidor, but until this trip to hawaii is taken care of ($$$$$$$) i cant get started on getting a massive gar collection going.

Anyways, I have this box of churchills and need to keep it at the right climate. My thoughts are 2 water pillows and a large ziplock bag (i hope it will fit) or those premade humidor bags you can get at the B&Ms. I want to keep the box together and bring the whole thing with me to Hawaii. Anyways any thoughts or new options would be appreciated.

thanks Gorrilas!

If you own beads and an old aluminum tube, put some beads in the tubo drilled with small holes. This is how I keep my Otterboxes properly humidified. Works like a charm.

If you don't have beads, a water pillow or 2 will work fine. How long are you looking to maintain the cigars? A couple of days? 2 Weeks?

If you're just trying to keep 1 box in condition, I'd suggest you buy a Boveda 65% Humidipak Humidifier and a ziplock freezer bag big enough for the box. Put box and humidipak in ziplock bag, squash as much air out of the bag as possible, and seal. Apply scotch tape or clear packing tape liberally to make sure the seal is air tight. Bing bang boom. Shouldn't cost you more than about $5.

Excellent idea.
Why didn't I think of that?

Those Boveda Humidipaks are rock solid and will last several months. I've never used the water pillows.

I often use the boveda packets inside small to medium pieces of tupperware. I just tape the packet to the lid and they work great. For less than 10 bucks you could get one packet and a large enough piece of tupperware. You just want to make sure it snaps tight pretty well.

I have larger tupperdors (smaller than most coolers though, http://www.containerstore.com/browse...5&PRODID=60176) with rubber seals, but that is way more than you will need.

Yeah i like the ziplock bag idea right now because the cigars are already in a box and i have to take them on a plane (i need to figure out the best way to do that too). I just hope i can find those Boveda packs or i will have to stick with the water pillow (which i don't know how good they are) or get one of those premade humidor bags (which i am guessing is a rip off). But i really apreciate the post and the help. thank you.

Darn, that requires that you somehow get rid of one of the sticks.

The Water Pillows work just fine. I've used them for the longest time. A month or so ago I called them to find out exactly what the RH rating on them were - and it's aprox. 70%

So yeah - your good to go with them.

Re: Got to keep a cheap box good!!! Advise?

Heck, before I got my two collidors, I used heavy duty, extra large ziplocks (available at Target, and I recently purchased a box from a local grocery store), threw half a dozen water pillows in with the 4-6 boxes, left some room for air circulation, and shoved the whole thing under the bed. Stuck a digital hydrometer in the bag from time to time just to make sure. Kept the contents well covered between 60 and 65%. If I wanted it higher, I simply put in another pillow or two. Two water pillows for one box, inside a sealed ziplock should do you fine. My water pillows usually stay hydrated for at least a month, so you should be good to go. Enjoy your trip!

Re: Got to keep a cheap box good!!! Advise?

Everyones info as usual is great. The little tid bit I would like to add is..I'm not sure if the water pillows soak up excess moisture as well as put it out. In a month I may be worried you could overhumidify...my says go with some sort of device that regulates 60-70..pref. 65% ie. beads/humi pack... Again just my

With the new restrictions on items in carry-on luggage, you would most likely have to check anything that contains a water pillow or a humi-pack.
