Prince Torch lighter

I bought this in a group buy last July and I am having trouble with it lighting. I filled it up today and now it won't work. Is it possible to get them too full?

Dunno Marianne - mine is still going strong.
Oh- what kind of butane are you using? Triple refined works for me

Have you tried to blow compressed air at the jet?

Re: Prince Torch lighter

Marianne, did you purge your lighter before you refilled it? This is sometimes an overlooked step, but very important. Before filling you need to take a ballpoint pen or something similar and depress the valve, allowing it to depressurize; then refill. Just keep holding the valve in until you don't hear any more hissing, then fill.

Re: Prince Torch lighter

You can use the can of compressed air which can be bought almost anywhere, not the same as an air compressor with 125 psi but still works pretty well. I carry mine a lot in my pocket and sometimes debris will get stuck in the valve, I now use the cap to cover the top when carrying it. I have also taken a q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol and swabbed the tip to clean any debris, it goes with out saying don't try and light it till the alcohol has evaporated. Filling it to the brim has never affected the performance for me, and amazingly these darn little guys go till the last drop. I do purge mine about every other fill up. Hope you get it resolved.

Thanks for the q-tip advice. So far, I have only tried the air.

Re: Prince Torch lighter

I'll try the air-of course, now it is full of fluid so I can't purge it.

Re: Prince Torch lighter

It will be cold, but you can purge a full lighter. NEVER fill a butane lighter that has any fuel left in it. It must be purged to remove the remaining fuel and AIR in the tank. Point it away from you and press the valve till absolutely no sound is heard from the tank. Then refill as normal (with at least triple refined fuel).
Hope you can get it to work Marianne, it's a GREAT lighter!

Re: Prince Torch lighter

Okay, that didn't work. I emptied it and let all the air out...then refilled and it still doesn't work. All I have is Ronson butane. But I have used it all along with no problem.

Ronson is just a problem waiting to happen. Empty it out - re-fill with only triple refined. Use the Q-tip method and then blow it out real good with compressed air.

If it still does not work then you may need to send it in for a complete cleaning of the innner parts.

Re: Prince Torch lighter

What happens if try and light the Prince with another flame? Can you hear gas out of the Prince when you depress the button?
