Vicksburg or coolerdor

When I first started here I didn't have a humidor. Then I picked up a 100 ct humi. Now that one is busting at the joints. Then I bought a 300 ct humi and have just about filled it up.
I was wondering if I should pick up a Vicksburg. That price is looking mighty tempting. However, I am now starting to buy boxes and bundles, but I still am buying 5 packs and singles. So would a Vicksburg last a while before I fill it or should I just stop kidding myself and buy a cooler(my wife will just love that )

Save money by buying a cooler...then spend it on smokes.

Re: Vicksburg or coolerdor

In the end it is really a matter of preference. If the storage capacity to money ratio is of a factor, go with the cooler. For $50-60 you can get a large cooler, beads, and an oust fan, and bam! you are in business. Especially if you are buying boxes, you will have miscellaneous storage space. In addition, having a cooler you can easily set up long term aging, especially if you have more than one. I didn't get a chance to check where you are from, but another advantage to a coolerdor is temp control. If if gets exceedingly hot in the summer where you live, a cooler by design is for keeping temperature down. More often than not, all it takes to regulate temp to a sage level is an ice pack or two.

I would have to agree with Twill413. Are you worried about space more then looks?? That really is the main question you have to ask yourself.

Re: Vicksburg or coolerdor

The coolerdor is definitely more cost efficient. You can even use it for combo singles/box storage if you get creative. I have a coolerdor with 25 empty boxes in it that I bought for less than $70.00. I could easily fit another 20 boxes in it plus use the top levels of it to hold tray after tray of singles. Coolerdor definitely. Humidors are really nice for the display and presentation aspects. But with you owning one already and having that aspect of it down..... forget the looks, go for efficiency.

If I didn't have any high temperature problems I'd have solely 2 or 3 120-150qt. Marine coolers..... Done!

I can't argue with that logic. I've been drooling over a Vicksburg for awhile myself but the cooler I have works great for mass storage - 10 boxes in there at the moment and plenty of room for more. I use a 75 count desktop for daily smokes. In short - A box of Party shorts or a Vicksburg??? No contest IMHO the smokes win.

Re: Vicksburg or coolerdor

I was just debating the same thing last week, and the coolerdor won out. They are cheaper, have more space, and maintain a great RH% IF sticks are stored in boxes or spanish cedar is added. I am trying to find some nice spanish cedar to line the floor and part of the wall with now. I already have two much smaller wooden humi's, and quite frankly that is all my wife wants to look at! The cooler can sit in a closet for all I care - it will be used mostly for boxes and aging.

Coolerdors are the way to go for large capacity, long term storage.

Goo coolador and go large.

It will be cheaper and give you more room. The money you save you can spend on cigars.

I have to agree with the coolerdor. I have two of them, and a use smaller humidors to keep the ones I will be smoking soon in.

Re: Vicksburg or coolerdor

I bought a cooler to build and I realized I don't have nearly enough sticks for a coolerdor. I went the Vicksburg route and I love it!

Re: Vicksburg or coolerdor

It's nice to have humidors for the look of them and what it does to a room. Once you get to the point where they are not practical then a cooler comes to the rescue.

Biggest thing about a cooler is where to put it. Me I am running out of room to store a 150qt cooler but I have 3 humidors now and buying a 4th just doesn't seem right.

It is a hard decision sometimes but one you have to make based on room and your own likes & dislikes.
