S.T. Dupont Xtend vs. Porsche Design PD5/PD6
First of all, I'd like to apologize if someone feels that I'm asking the same thing all over again. Well I am sort of but also after reading some of the othet threads through I got the feeling that when choosing a 100-200 dollar lighter (a price range many feel comfortable with unless they want a cheapo lighter) these two brands are at the top of their list. Well, Colibri is popular as well but you can't really argue with the loads of unhappy comments about the lighters this manufacturer is selling. I'm sure majority of Colibri-users are happy users but it doesn't take many bad apples to give a bad rep to the whole batch.
Anyway, do share your opinion. Which of these lighters would you get and why? Here are my thoughts:
S.T. Dupont Xtend: This lighter really looks like a quality lighter. The design is timeless yet modern, but most of all clean and simply -- just the way I like it. I like the fact that you ignate the flame by pressing the side of the lighter; you don't have to use your thumb. I'm told that the gloss-versions not only gather fingerprints easily but also scratch easily. For me (as I'm going to buy Xikar Xi1 Titanium which is grey) the grey/metal matte finish is the way to go.
Porche Design PD5: If I'm not mistaken I saw this lighter paired up with Xikar Xi1 Titanium Cutter used by Lex Luthor in Superman Returns. This lighter looks very slim and actually when you look at the ignation mechanism kind of fragile. However, I'm told Porche Design lighters are quite heave so I'm sure this is an illusion. I do like the looks of this lighter but I guess for me it just looks too fragile.
Porsche Design PD6: I have to say that at first I didn't get how this lighter works. The design is odd to me. I'm sure it's more ergonomic than PD5 but I guess I like lighters that look like lighters. I guess this lighter would be more appealing to me if it had something extra to offer when compared to the other two lighters: like dual or triple flames.
When I think about it my choice would probably be between the Xtend and PD5; PD6 just looks too weird to me. Xtend being an S.T. Dupont has that high-quality rep going for it and it's also cheaper than the two PD-lighters. PD5 on the other hand does have that Porsche Design -look: you gotta admit it screams "I'm a high-end lighter".
As a Xikar Executive-owner, I'm sure either one of the three will be a big improvement. However, I probably will never again a lighter priced this high so I want to use your opinions as help.
