Wine Coolerdor / Freezing advice

I currently have a wine cooler hooked up to a temperature controller; using beads for humidity. I also freeze everything I get (-5F for 3 days).

My house warms up to 80F during the day while I am at work. Should I continue lowering the temperature or is freezing enough?

I do not like how the humidity goes up and down and I wonder if the moisture in the cooler damages the beads and/or cigars.

I'm not sure I quite understand what you are asking. Why is there moisture in the cooler? If it is running of the cooling plate it should go out the drain. What is your winecooler set at? It should make no difference what the house temp is if the winecooler is under control. As far as the humidity going up and down it should not be but a little swing and if you keep your cigars in boxes they probably don't notice it because they are buffered. The best way to find out would be to get a remote hygrometer and put a sensor inside a box. What kind of winecooler are you running?

The temp controller is set to kick on when the temp gets above 70, then stop at 65. The moisture is on the cooling plate in the back. The brand is Danby. All cigars are in boxes, I left a hygrometer in a box for a while and pulled it out when the humidity was low and the change was minimal.

I guess I am asking if my freezing efforts are enough to keep beetles away and if I really need to keep the wine cooler running.

I will tell you one thing that I have found is that if you set you temp controller to come on at 70 and cool to say 68 you will not see nearly the RH drop that you are experiencing now and it will probably help with the moisture because ther will not be as much temperature change. I keep my winecooler set to come on at 71 and cool to 69. I don't have the problem with the moisture and there is not such an RH fluctuation. I had the problems you are experiencing when I tried doing the same settings you are running right now. I tweeked it around until I got to where I am now. I would give it a try for a couple days and see if it helps. I would not not use the climate control capabilities that you have because you freeze. But that is me. Hope this helps.

Re: Wine Coolerdor / Freezing advice

you DEFINITELY dont want the temp controller set to go on at 70 and off at 65.. that is WAY too much of a swing you are asking the fridge to work to..

70 to 67 tops~!
